[Earthworm (Baijing Di Long)]
Also known as Dilong (Earthworm). The medicinal part is the Baijing (White-necked) earthworm, which refers to the older worms.
Taste: Salty. Nature: Cold. Slight toxicity. Averse to scallions and salt. Indications: Manic delirium due to latent heat in Shanghan (Cold Damage); rambling speech due to high fever in Wenyi (Warm Diseases); epilepsy caused by febrile diseases in children; various types of stroke-like symptoms during epidemic diseases.
[Frog]
Found everywhere. Those resembling toads but with pointed mouths and slender bellies, with a bluish-green back, are Qingwa (Green Frogs). Those with yellow lines on their backs are Jinxiwan (Golden-line Frogs). Commonly known as Tuya or Shiya, also called Hazi, which is the aquatic frog (Shuiji) of today.
Taste: Sweet. Nature: Neutral-Cold. Main actions: Resolves heat toxins, promotes urination and reduces edema. Culinary use removes fatigue and weakness; particularly suitable for treating infantile malnutrition (Gan syndrome) with emaciation. For postpartum women, crushed frog juice treats Xiamawen (Mumps/Parotitis). For general whole-body edema or isolated abdominal distension, consume one or two frogs, skinned and roasted, to resolve spontaneously. For Shuigu (Hydrops/Ascites), characterized by abdominal distension, fluid sounds upon shaking, and blackish skin, use two dried frogs stir-fried with butter, seven ground beetles (Tugou) stir-fried, and half an ounce of bitter gourd (Kuhulu) stir-fried. Grind into powder. Take 2 qian with warm wine on an empty stomach. No more than three doses are needed for efficacy. During epidemics, facial redness and neck swelling are named Xiamawen. Crush Jinxiwan, mix with water, and drink in one dose on an empty stomach for extreme efficacy. For toxic dysentery causing inability to eat (Jinkou), crush one aquatic frog including intestines and viscera, heat on a tile, add 5 fen of musk, form into a cake, and apply to the umbilicus. Once qi circulation resumes, eating can resume. For various painful hemorrhoids, take one long-legged green frog, burn until carbonized (preserve nature), grind into powder, mix with snow cream, and make pills the size of wutong seeds. On an empty stomach, first eat two spoons of rice, then swallow 15 pills with Zhiqiao (Magnolia Bark) decoction. For insects eroding the anus or kidney organs, leading to anal destruction and intestinal perforation, use one frog and one part chicken bone, burn to ash, and insufflate into the lesion for great efficacy.
[Discussion]
The earthworm is born from water energy and formed through the virtue of earth. Even salt can transform it into water, which contradicts its original generation. In the human body, water and earth... Yangming... Water... Summer beginning... Therefore formulas... Kidney... Spirit... Within... Nourishing the lower jiao benefits the kidney... Earth naturally governs dampness, yet now it can also move dampness. Is this not Yin substance with Yang Qi? As the essence of earth, it can facilitate the transformation of Wood. When Wood's transformation proceeds smoothly, wind calms down. Previously, Qian Yi treated the Crown Prince's convulsions with Huangtu Tang (Yellow Earth Decoction) and achieved recovery. Inquiry into... calming water and treating wind originates from earth combining with water... Also. Carefully studying the meaning of treating wind deficiency reveals that using cold... Ms. Miao stated that it can remove excess pathogenic heat; those with inherently weak spleen and stomach should not use it. Those with Shanghan without excess heat and mania should not use it. Its nature also has slight toxicity.
[Processing]
Remove mud, transform with salt into water. For medicinal use, there are preparations transformed into water, powdered, or burnt to ash, according to specific prescriptions.
[Frog Discussion]
The frog's ability to promote urination and reduce edema seems similar to that of the mole cricket (Lougu), but there are differences. It possesses a unique quality of benefiting Yin Qi, directly supplementing... Yang within... This system...
