For lesions in the initial stage, whether it is Ding Chuang (malignant furuncle), Ju Bing (deep-seated abscess), or Fa Bei (carbuncle on the back), fumigation should be applied immediately. If the pathogenic toxin sinks inward, other formulas for Nei Tuo (internal support/expelling toxin) can be used.
Regarding inducing sweating to release the exterior: For lesions on the back, Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) is the main herb; on the face, Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix); on the shoulders and flanks, Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix); on the chest and abdomen, Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) and Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma). Li Dongyuan's prescriptions are most excellent: if the pulse is rapid, slippery, floating, and large, Li Dongyuan's Xiao Du San (Detoxification Powder) is suitable; if the pulse is deep and fine, Shi Bu San (Ten-Tonifying Powder) is used; if the pulse is slippery and rapid with sores located lower down, Dang Gui Nian Tong Tang (Tang-kuei Decoction for Relieving Pain) is suitable.
Regarding fumigation: Use slices of garlic, or powder Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) and Mu Bie Zi (Strychni Semen) together, mix with honey to form cakes for use. For chronic cold sores, use slices of Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata).
Regarding purging: If the pulse is excess, with swollen sores and constipation, Nei Shu Huang Lian Tang (Internal-Draining Coptis Decoction) is suitable. If there is profuse sweating, a large pulse, and delirium, Po Guan Dan (Breaking Coffin Pill) is used.
Regarding Cong Zhi (following treatment/reverse therapy): There are cases where sores and swelling arise from consuming various toxic foods or dead donkey/horse meat, or caused by damp-toxin, etc., which are suitable for the following medicines.
Fei Long Duo Ming Dan (Flying Dragon Seizing Life Pill): Treats all kinds of Ding Chuang (malignant furuncles), malignant swellings, and initial stages of Yong Ju (boils and carbuncles), or cases where the disease has sunk inward. If heat-toxin is vigorous and the pulse is full, the following Yin Zi (Infusion) is suitable.
Ingredients: Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma), Xiong Huang (Realgar), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) (each 1 qian), Nao Sha (Sal Ammoniac), Huang Dan (Lithargyrum), Xin Shi (Arsenolite), Ru Xiang (Olibanum) (each 0.5 qian), Ban Mao (Mylabris), Hu Gu (Pantheris Os) (16 pieces, remove wings, skin, and bone surface), She Xiang (Moschus) (a small amount).

Depending on the location of the sore (upper or lower) and timing relative to meals, swallow with good wine. Avoid all meats and greasy foods for seven days. Another version includes Fan (Alumen) (1 qian) and Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (1 qian), without Xiong Huang.
Li Dongyuan Huang Lian Xiao Du Yin (Coptis Detoxification Infusion): Treats Yong Ju (boils and carbuncles) occurring on the crown of the head or back, with swelling spreading outward, heat-toxin erupting, numbness, and lack of pain; moxibustion is suitable.

Regarding moxibustion: Luo Li (scrofula) and sores require moxibustion. Select two points: Jian Jing (GB21) and the anterior bony end of Qu Chi (LI11). Internally, take San Zhong Kui Jian Wan (Swelling-Reducing and Hardness-Resolving Pills) for one to two doses.
Regarding Shuang Jie (simultaneous resolution of interior and exterior): For limb reversal, throat obstruction, aversion to cold, and alternating fever, use Wu Xiang Lian Qiao Tang (Five-Aroma Forsythia Decoction). Guo Shi Shui Cheng Gao (Guo’s Water-Clear Paste) is applied to red, hot, painful, infiltrating sores.
