Yin and Yang give rise to the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water), which further evolve into the Ten Heavenly Stems (Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui). The Heavenly Stems circulate and transform across the five directions. (Jia and Yi correspond to East Wood; Bing and Ding correspond to South Fire; Ren and Gui correspond to North Water; Wu and Ji correspond to Central Earth; Geng and Xin correspond to West Metal, forming the Five Movements.)
Wood is the Initial Movement, Fire is the Second Movement, Earth is the Third Movement, Metal is the Fourth Movement, and Water is the Fifth Movement. This constitutes the Host Movement (Zhu Yun), which remains fixed every year.
When Jia combines with Ji, it transforms into Earth years, governed by Earth Movement. When Yi combines with Geng, it transforms into Metal years, governed by Metal Movement.
When Bing combines with Xin, it transforms into Water years, governed by Water Movement. When Ding combines with Ren, it transforms into Wood years, governed by Wood Movement.
When Wu combines with Gui, it transforms into Fire years, governed by Fire Movement.
This constitutes the Guest Movement (Ke Yun), which shifts sequentially each year.
Yin and Yang give rise to the Twelve Earthly Branches (Zi, Yin, Chen, Wu, Shen, Xu are the six Yang branches; Chou, Mao, Si, Wei, You, Hai are the six Yin branches).
The months of Yin and Mao belong to Spring, corresponding to East Wood. The months of Si and Wu belong to Summer, corresponding to South Fire. The months of Shen and You belong to Autumn, corresponding to West Metal. The months of Hai and Zi belong to Winter, corresponding to North Water.
The months of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei belong to the four seasons' transitions, corresponding to Central Earth.
(The Six Qi: Wind, Fire, Summer Heat, Dampness, Dryness, Cold)
In Zi and Wu years, Shaoyin Junfire governs the Si Tian (Heavenly position), and in Mao and You years, Yangming Zaojin governs the Zai Quan (Earthly position).
In Chou and Wei years, Taiyin Shitu governs the Si Tian, and in Chen and Xu years, Taiyang Hanshui governs the Zai Quan.

The Host Qi (Zhu Qi) is called "Host" because it remains fixed every year.
Jueyin Fengmu is the First Qi, governing the period from Da Han (Great Cold) to Chun Fen (Spring Equinox). Shaoyin Junfire is the Second Qi, governing the period from Chun Fen to Xiao Man (Grain Full).
Shaoyang Xianghuo is the Third Qi, governing the period from Xiao Man to Da Shu (Great Heat). Taiyin Shitu is the Fourth Qi, governing the period from Da Shu to Qiu Fen (Autumn Equinox).
Yangming Zaojin is the Fifth Qi, governing the period from Qiu Fen to Xiao Xue (Minor Snow). Taiyang Hanshui is the Sixth Qi, governing the period from Xiao Xue to Da Han (Great Cold).
Guest Qi (Ke Qi) is superimposed upon the Host Qi. Because it shifts annually, it is called "Guest."
