The bone refers to the bones located between the shoulder and the elbow. From below the shoulder to above the wrist, this segment is named "Gong" (Humerus/Upper Arm Bone), commonly known as the arm, which is a general term for the two major supporting bones of the upper body. Injuries may result from falling off vehicles or horses causing comminuted fractures, simple fractures, oblique cracks, complete transverse fractures, or shattered fractures. Simple fractures involve bone fragments, whereas fracture-dislocations due to falls typically do not. Symptoms include local swelling and pain, mental agitation, and generalized numbness and coldness. Treatment employs manual reduction techniques: one must trace the tendons above and below, and anterior and posterior to the injury, to ensure they are aligned and smooth; massage and press the fractured bone gaps to restore alignment; then secure with small cedar splints around the area, wrap externally with white cloth, administer Zhenggu Zijin Dan internally, and apply Wanling Gao externally. If swelling persists, wash the area with Sanyu He Shang Tang.
(Note: Zhenggu Zijin Dan, Wanling Gao, and Sanyu He Shang Tang are detailed in the section on "Injuries to the Vertex Bone".)
The elbow bone refers to the junction where the upper and lower segments of the middle part of the arm meet, commonly known as the "Goose Nose Bone". If a fall causes the tip of the elbow to protrude upward with unceasing pain, accompanied by sweating and shivering, manual reduction is required to rotate the humerus and traction the elbow bone to realign the joint. Obliquely bent tendons should be pushed and massaged back into place. Although the arm may regain the ability to hang down and lift immediately, rest and recuperation remain the best approach. If swelling and pain occur, internal administration of Zhenggu Zijin Dan and external application of Wanling Gao are indicated.
(Note: Wanling Gao and Zhenggu Zijin Dan are detailed in the section on "Injuries to the Vertex Bone".)
The forearm bones consist of two roots extending from the elbow to the wrist: the radius and the ulna. The larger, longer bone located inferiorly and connecting to the elbow tip is the ulna (Arm Bone); the shorter, thinner bone located superiorly is the radius (Auxiliary Bone), commonly known as the "Coiling Bone". These two bones overlap and lean against each other, both connecting distally to the carpal bones. Injuries to the forearm bones are often caused by direct impact leading to fractures. Either both the ulna and radius may be fractured, or only one. Stasis and coagulation cause pain. Manual reduction is used to align the broken bones correctly, followed by the application of Wanling Gao, wrapping with a bamboo mat, and tightening with cloth strips. After three days, open the mat to inspect; press the affected area with fingers. If any irregularity remains, massage the stasis knot again to restore normalcy, change the plaster, re-wrap with the bamboo mat, and administer Zhenggu Zijin Dan every morning at dawn.
