脉。加麝香者,以通其窍;
(Ren Niao Zhu Dan Jiang Tang, Human Urine and Pig Bile Decoction, from Zhang Zhongjing. Ren Niao, pronounced "niao" with the falling tone, refers to urine. The common reading as a level tone is incorrect.) This formula consists of Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) combined with Congbai (Scallion White). [Fuzi (prepared), one piece; Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), one liang; Congbai (Scallion White), four stalks. This constitutes Baitong Tang (White Pass Decoction). Congbai (Scallion White) is used to unblock Yang Qi; Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) and Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) are used to disperse Yin Cold. Five he of human urine and one he of pig bile are added.] The profound meaning of using cold agents in heat therapy is deep, addressing cases where severe Yin excess repels Yang outward, leading to cold extremities and absence of pulse. [When Yin-Cold is extremely severe internally, it repels Yang to the exterior, resulting in cold extremities and no pulse. If purely hot medicines are administered, the Cold Qi will reject them, preventing entry. Therefore, urine and bile are added to the hot preparation as cold guides, allowing the medicinal power to penetrate the Yin aspect and restore Yang.]
(Ren Shen Zao Tang, Ginseng and Jujube Decoction, from Zhang Zhongjing, heavily using Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) to warm the Stomach effectively.) It preserves patients suffering from Cold-induced vomiting in the Yangming channel (contraindicated for Heat-induced vomiting in the Taiyang channel), diarrhea in Shaoyin disease, and headache in Jueyin disease. [Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit), one sheng (prepared); Renshen (Ginseng Root), three liang; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), six liang; Dazao (Jujube Fruit), twelve pieces. Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit), Renshen (Ginseng Root), and Dazao (Jujube Fruit) tonify the Earth element and scatter Cold. Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit) is pungent and hot, entering the Jueyin Liver channel, treating vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain caused by rebellious Liver Qi.]
(Ai Fu Tang, Mugwort and Aconite Decoction, from *Ren Shu*, composed of Aiye (Mugwort Leaf), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), and Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), guided by Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Renshen (Ginseng Root), and Gancao (Licorice Root).) Boil with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), Dazao (Jujube Fruit), and Congbai (Scallion White), add Tongbian (Child's Urine), and take cold. This condition of internal Cold and external Heat is named Daiyang Syndrome (Face-Redness Syndrome). [This is a syndrome of Yin excess repelling Yang outward, characterized by facial redness and body heat, but without irritability (Fan) rather restlessness (Zao), desiring water but unable to swallow, indicating external Heat and internal Cold. This decoction combines Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) and Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) with Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), consistent with the principle of Baitong Tang plus human urine and pig bile, employing hot medicines with cold guides. Note: Internal Heat is termed Fan (irritability), representing rooted Fire; External Heat is termed Zao (restlessness), representing rootless Fire. Thus, cases with only Zao (restlessness) without Fan (irritability), or Zao preceding Fan, are considered untreatable.]
(Huiyang Jiutang, Return to Yang Rescue Extremity Decoction, Jie'an stated this is essentially Sini Tang modified, utilizing Liu Jun Zi Tang, combined with Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), and Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry).) [Fuzi (prepared), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Renshen (Ginseng Root), each 1 fen; Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), each 1 qian; Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), each 7 fen; Gancao (Licorice Root), 3 fen; Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), 9 grains; boiled with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger).] Add She Xiang (Musk) 3 li or pig bile, to achieve great merit in severe Cold-Jue of the Three Yin channels. [Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), and Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) dispel Yin Cold. Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) warms and tonifies, assisting Yang Qi. Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) and Renshen (Ginseng Root) generate the pulse. Adding She Xiang (Musk) opens the orifices; adding bile applies the principle of "heat due to cold use".]
