*Shi Xi* records: It treats alternating chills and fever, headache, and warm qi disorders. Urine from a prepubescent boy is particularly effective.
*Yan Yi* records: Human urine must be collected from a prepubescent boy; after childbirth, drinking one cup can expel lochia and other foul matter. Long-term consumption may lead to deficiency. If there is no heat in the qi and blood, it should especially not be taken in excess. This is because its nature is cold, so it is also used in formulas treating consumptive fever (lao re).
*Ri Hua Zi* records: Urine is cool in nature. It stops thirst and cough due to consumption, moistens the lungs and heart, treats mania caused by blood-heat, traumatic blood stasis, sudden collapse of vital energy, and bites from snakes or dogs. For these conditions, hot urine should be poured over the affected area. For difficult labor with retained placenta, take one sheng of urine, decoct it with ginger and scallion, and drink it while hot; the placenta will then be expelled.
[Oyster Shell] has a slightly cold qi, salty flavor, and neutral nature. It is non-toxic.
It enters the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian.
*Xiang* records: It treats alternating chills and fever in Shanghan (cold damage) and Wen Nue (warm malaria), leukorrhea (red and white discharge) in women, stops sweating, and alleviates heart pain and qi stagnation. It astringes the Large Intestine and Small Intestine, and treats epigastric and hypochondriac fullness. When calcined and ground into a fine white powder, it is used externally or internally.
*Zhen* records: It can soften masses formed by stagnant qi. The *Neijing* states: "Salty flavors can soften hardness."
*Xin* records: Salty in flavor, neutral in nature. When roasted, it drains damp-water qi.
*Ben Cao* records: It primarily treats alternating chills and fever in Shanghan, the shivering of Wen Nue, and emotions of fright and anger. It relieves spasms and flaccidity, treats Shu Lou (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis), and leukorrhea in women. It clears residual heat in the joints, deficiency heat of Ying and Wei causing alternating chills and fever, restlessness, and fullness. It stops sweating, alleviates heart pain and qi stagnation, quenches thirst, and removes old blood. It astringes the intestines, stopping diarrhea and urinary incontinence. It treats spermatorrhea, bi-syndrome of the throat, cough, and heat-fullness in the chest and hypochondrium. It eliminates Luo Li (scrofula) and all types of sores and swellings. It enters the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian. Salty substances are agents that soften hardness. Guided by Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), it can remove hardness in the hypochondrium; guided by tea, it can dissipate tubercles; guided by Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), it can eliminate swelling in the groin; with Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) as an assistant, it benefits essence, promotes astringency, stops urination, and acts specifically on the Kidney meridian. Long-term use strengthens bone joints, dispels evil spirits, and prolongs life. Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus) serves as an assistant. It works well when combined with Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix), and She Chuang Zi (Cnidii Fructus). It is incompatible with Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus), and Xin Yi (Magnoliae Flos).
*Yao Xing Lun* records: It serves as a sovereign drug. It treats metrorrhagia in women, stops bleeding and night sweats, clears wind-heat, and stabilizes pain. It treats Wen Nue. When taken together with Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), it stops night sweats. Made into pills with honey, taking thirty pills per dose makes the complexion bright and white, preventing infection by seasonal epidemic pathogens. It also treats nocturnal emission ("ghost intercourse") and loss of essence; for patients who are deficient and have excessive heat, it is added, along with Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) and Xiao Cao (Lithospermi Semen).
Chen Shiliang records: Crushing Oyster Shell into powder and applying it to the body treats night sweats in adults and children. Mixed with Ma Huang Gen (Ephedrae Caulis), She Chuang Zi (Cnidii Fructus), and Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) into a powder and applied to the body, it removes sweating in the genital region. The meaning of *Yan Yi* is consistent with this.
