Prescription transmitted by Vice-Intendant Tang Zhiyuan:
Root of *Cyperus rotundus* (also known as Xiangfu Cao, Cyperus Grass)
Remove the skin, cut into fine shreds, soak in Ginger Juice (Shengjiang Zhi, 姜汁) for one night. The next day, dry in the sun and grind into powder for use.
(Transmitted by Physician Shang from Raozhou.)
Flower bud of *Tussilago farfara* (Kuandonghua,
Remove branches and stalks, finely chop, bake until dry, and grind into fine powder.
Mix the above powder with raw Honey (Fengmi, 蜂蜜) to form cakes. Store them in a charcoal incense burner, similar to storing incense. Place the medicine on heat so that the patient opens their mouth to inhale the smoke, then swallow with Rice Drink (Miyin, 米饮). Take before going to bed. (In my earlier years, I saw Zhao Panzong from Shaoxing say that he first burned Kuandonghua in an incense burner, then covered it with a small bamboo hood, leaving only one hole to receive the smoke at the mouth; coughing stopped after two or three times).
Head of White Eel (Bai Shan Yu Tou, 白鳝鱼头) (Dried)
Burn into fine powder, mix with Calomel (Qingfen, 轻粉) and apply topically.
Transmitted by Doctor Zou Chun in the Capital (Lin'an).
Dung Beetle (Qianglang Chong, 蜣螂虫) (Those that have transformed into cicadas)
Take three qian (approx. 15g) of the above, stir-fry on a tile until charred to ash, and sprinkle directly onto the wound.
Southern Borax (Nan Pengsha, 南硼砂) (1 qian)
Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai, 青黛) (1 qian)
Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草) (0.5 qian)
Stiff Silkworm (Bai Jiangcan, 白僵蚕) (2 qian)
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Add a small amount of Borneol (Naobzi, 脑子), grind and mix well, then sprinkle directly into the throat for cure.
Calcined Alum (Baifan, 白矾) (processed by water levigation)
Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, each 0.5 liang)
Grind into fine powder, sprinkle directly into the throat, and swallow slowly.
Old Matting (Jiu Jian,
Use old matting to wrap the person who died from cold. Roll and rub continuously without stopping; natural vital energy will resume and they will recover.
Mud Slurry (Nijiang,
Dig a hole along the road with a knife or tool, fill it with water, and stir into a thick slurry. Administer orally to the drowning victim for recovery.
While I was in Poyang, I encountered a drowning victim whose body was stiff and breath had ceased. Using this method, they revived immediately.
Wall Mud (Gan Bi Ni,
First, scrape down a section of wall mud and place it on the ground. Lay the victim supine upon it, then cover the body with more wall earth, exposing only the mouth and eyes. Naturally, the water qi will be absorbed into the mud, and the person will revive.
Vinegar (Cu, 醋)
Use acidic vinegar. Dip hands in it, wipe the ground mud, and apply the mixture to the body.
Soot from under the cooking pot (Fu Huo Xia Hei Chen,
Grind with water into a paste. Mix with honey and oil, apply topically for immediate cure.
