To treat infants and young children with slow convulsion (Man Jing Feng) and slow spleen syndrome, if the spirit is confused and drowsy, and there is deficient phlegm in the diaphragm that cannot be transformed, Baidu (Croton Seed) and Qingfen (Calomel) should not be administered to avoid disturbing the Zang-Fu organs. Only use the wonderful prescription left by immortals for the child to take; the phlegm will naturally discharge within a short moment. After a long while, when the spirit has stabilized and the eyes open slightly, gradually administer warm and neutral medicines to regulate Stomach Qi, combined with medicines to soothe and manage convulsions. Do not further attack or purge. This prescription is named Qibao Miaosha Dan (Seven-Treasure Marvelous Sand Pill), derived from the name of one Kaiyuan Tongbao copper coin. The appearance of the coin is shown later: only coins with two crescent-shaped marks on the upper and lower back are usable; those with only one mark are not used. Coins that are pale black and relatively small are suitable. Place the coins on the spoon head and burn them in charcoal fire for an instant until yellow and white beads appear all around the edges. Remove them, let them cool, pour into a tea cup, add a small amount of Cinnabar powder (Zhusha Mo), and prepare as a single dose. Administer with decoction of Gold, Silver, and Mint leaves (Jinyin Bohe Tang). Prepare many such coins for emergencies, or pre-bake them into beads for storage. This prescription is effective for clearing deficient phlegm caused by falling injuries in children, provided there are no other complicating symptoms. Its use guarantees complete efficacy without doubt.
Discussion: To regulate and treat infantile slow spleen wind syndrome, nothing surpasses the aforementioned prescription for targeting the syndrome and achieving effectiveness. One must examine whether the slow spleen syndrome has progressed or not. If the child's eyes are open but not closed, still in the stage of slow convulsion, and hands and feet are not cold, do not immediately administer Yang-returning medicines. Instead, give Qibao Miaosha Dan (Seven-Treasure Marvelous Sand Pill) one or two doses. When the eyes close, the condition becomes lethargic, and Yin syndromes are extremely prevalent, then Yang-returning medicines may be administered. After taking Yang-returning and Spleen-awakening decoctions, when hands and feet gradually warm up, continue to administer Guanyin Quanxie San (Guanyin Full Scorpion Powder) and Xingpi San (Spleen-Awakening Powder) concurrently. The nine types of slow spleen wind syndrome are the most severe conditions; they can only be treated with the aforementioned prescriptions. Although urgent, do not mix various treatments indiscriminately. Indiscriminate treatment is not only ineffective but also burdensome and prolongs the illness unnecessarily. Rest and care for the disease. This disease transmits through Yin and Yang; severe cases are like oil in a lamp, fading away step by step. If one does not assist Yang to generate Stomach Qi, but only knows how to block wind and remove convulsions, the child's phlegm will increase. Furthermore, if the Yin syndrome has not reached an extreme level, administering cold and cooling medicines to attack will deplete Yang after overcoming Yin, making rescue difficult. In such cases, Yang Qi transforms along with Yin. It is said that control must begin at the source. For treating slow spleen wind syndrome, if medications are used as described, survival is possible. If opinions differ from this approach, rescue is unlikely. Alas.
