Translation:
It is discussed that if the mother experiences frequent palpitations and fright during pregnancy, or consumes foods with heat-toxic properties, after birth the infant often presents with deficiency-phlegm, rapid and short breathing, excessive eye discharge (discharge from the eyes), lethargy, frequent yawning, inability to relax the spirit, making "eh-eh" sounds, difficult urination and defecation, or although excretion occurs, it contains blood and water. In severe cases, the hands are often tightly clenched, the feet frequently twitch and contract, the eyes often deviate, and the body exhibits jerking and jumping movements. All these symptoms are caused by heat received in the womb. It is advisable to quickly administer Dalianqiao Yinzi (Great Forsythia Decoction) to dissipate various heats, followed by Xiaofeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder). After several doses, the condition will resolve safely.
It is discussed that if the mother experiences frequent anger and unresolved depression during pregnancy, combined with dryness and dampness in the fetal qi causing difficult development, the mother becomes frightened, leading to unharmonious breast milk. The infant sucks in toxins, resulting in fever. The infant vomits upon feeding, has unstable gaze, restless spirit while lying down, and convulsions/jerking upon hearing noises, suffering without relief. Accumulated toxic heat transforms over time into "Wugu" disease (a chronic wasting disease in children), causing harm. Treatment should first regulate Qi, then administer Sishun San (Four Harmonizing Powder). If still unsettled, Scallion Root Decoction will be effective.
It is discussed that if the mother frequently craves foods that stir wind during pregnancy, heat-toxins spread and affect the fetus. If pathogens hide in the meridians, the limbs become curled and contracted; if they enter the blood vessels, the muscles and body become emaciated. Such infants often squint, are weak, blood fails to nourish the heart-mind, the spirit is unsettled, showing timidity and fear of people and objects, with fixed, staring eyes. If not treated early, the demeanor is trance-like; though the body grows, the temperament is dull and clumsy, appearing negligent. Memories from the morning are forgotten over time. Though ill for a long time, life is inevitably compromised. This is because parents only cherish their former beauty and neglect this seemingly useless child. For such fetal wind diseases, when treatment reaches the use of precious and fine herbs, ordinary prescriptions cannot achieve efficacy.
It is discussed that if the mother experiences fright and palpitations during pregnancy, frightful Qi enters the fetus. After birth, the infant lacks spiritual clarity and has a pale complexion. Initially, there is slight warmth, followed by red cheeks. The infant is easily frightened, fearful of moving objects, and startled by loud noises. Without tight holding and soothing in bed, care is difficult to manage. Since fetal fright exists, signs of transformation into fetal wind appear. The nursing mother must strictly avoid all heat-toxic foods. If treated as an ordinary illness, it will ultimately be difficult to cure. This is because the infant's blood vessels are delicate, and the zang-fu organs are deficient and timid, unable to withstand heavy purgative agents. Doing so would make the child intellectually aware but filled with fear, causing suffering. Mild heat may disperse on its own, but a boil may appear on the neck, large as a fist, named "Jingqi" (Fright Qi). It must be lanced to drain pus before healing. Do not mistakenly use toxic drugs, lest they damage the skin and body. Not only does deep injury occur, but it may cause harm or be futile. There is no greater disaster than this.
