[Indications] For treating infantile diarrhea or cases where convulsive symptoms (Jing Feng) have already manifested, this prescription is highly effective.
Shihuang (Realgar), Yanxiao (Saltpeter), Chen Jupi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Qing Jupi (Green Tangerine Peel) (both with the white pith removed), Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung) (Sichuan origin is preferred), Banxia Qu (Pinellia Fermented Paste) (processed by roasting or frying).
Take equal parts of Shihuang and Yanxiao, grind them together until uniform, melt them in a porcelain vessel to extract the liquid, pour it out, let it cool, then grind finely. Subsequently, add the remaining herbs and mix uniformly.
Grind the mixture into powder, use Shumi rice flour boiled with water to form a paste, and make pills the size of *Wutong* seeds. For a two-year-old child, administer 20 pills; for older children, increase the dosage appropriately. Take with warm rice beverage on an empty stomach before meals. This formula harmonizes Yin and Yang Qi and benefits various pulse patterns.
Commentary: When Yin and Yang Qi are imbalanced, with cold and heat constraining each other; when convulsive symptoms (Jing Feng) have occurred and spasms have ceased; or when Yang deficiency leads to Yin excess, or Yin deficiency leads to Yang excess; or when convulsions have not subsided, accompanied by persistent vomiting and diarrhea; or regurgitation, asthma; or gradual cooling of hands and feet; or eyes closing; or excessive intake of cold-natured medicines; or deficiency-related restlessness; or lethargy, silence, and lack of consciousness; or恍惚 (huan hu - trance-like state) with fright. As long as Stomach Qi has not completely failed, administer promptly. In critical conditions, there is no need to form pills; simply mix the powder with warm rice beverage and administer until recovery. If hands and feet are ice-cold, they will warm up immediately after administration; if vomiting and diarrhea persist, they will stop immediately. Even in cases of Slow Convulsion (Man Jing Feng) or Slow Spleen Wind (Man Pi Feng), this formula is suitable. Adding Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction) enhances efficacy. Wise individuals who understand principles will surely respect and trust this formula, while ignorant ones will likely hesitate. This formula is excellent but rarely known; please practice it with reverence.
[Indications] For treating infantile vomiting and diarrhea due to Spleen and Stomach weakness, manifesting as Slow Convulsion (Man Jing Feng) with unceasing spasms. If physicians' wind-stopping measures fail, phlegm-resolving methods cannot expel phlegm, and heat-clearing methods cannot reduce fever, causing the convulsion to persist and potentially progressing to Slow Spleen Wind (Man Pi Feng), Dingming Yinzi should be administered.
Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) (half qian, tasting pungent), Tianma (Gastrodia Rhizome) (1 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted), Bai Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Lao Shengjiang (Old Ginger) (each 2 liang).
Place all ingredients in a porcelain vessel with one zhen of water. Boil until half the water remains. Remove Tianma, Baizhu, and Fuling, slice, dry-roast, and grind into fine powder. Each dose is half qian or 1 qian, mixed with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Zao (Jujube) decoction, taken at any time.
Commentary: This formula builds the Spleen, resolves phlegm, dispels wind, and clears heat, performing like a divine physician. Experienced doctors rarely know to use it. Novices only resort to Naoshexiang (Camphor and Musk) for their cooling properties. Vulgar practitioners claim these are good medicines, unaware that Camphor and Musk are used only as a last resort. These substances open orifices, clear blockages, smooth interstices, and lubricate joints. Their nature is Yin, transforming into Yang. They are suitable only for Fast Convulsion (Ji Jing Feng). They are strictly contraindicated in Slow Convulsion, Slow Spleen Wind, and Shanghan (Cold Damage). For Ganji (Infantile Malnutrition) and dysentery, they are also forbidden in deficient patients. Only for Spasm (Jing Bing) and Epilepsy (Dian Xian) is Dingming Yinzi appropriate, having proven effective repeatedly. This formula was devised by rural elders, possessing profound transformative power. The wise admire its profundity. For patients with copious phlegm, continuous spasms, and weak pulses who cannot tolerate harsh purgatives, Lingzhi Wan is suitable. If extremities are slightly cold, combine with Yang-restoring agents. Prescribing for such conditions represents the expedient method for saving critically injured patients.
