The *Daquan Fang* (Comprehensive Prescriptions) treats Bingzhong (uterine bleeding with heavy flow), continuous bleeding, and lower abdominal pain.
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 liang, stir-fried until slightly yellow) Baiye (Cacumen Platycladi, 6 liang, slightly stir-fried. Danxi stated that the nature of Cacaumen Platycladi is mostly dry.)
Take the above ingredients, add one sheng of water, decoct until six ge remain, add five ge of wine, and decoct again to obtain seven ge. Take divided into two doses on an empty stomach. Another method is to grind the ingredients into a fine powder and take two qian mixed with wine. (Using Cacumen Platycladi as the sovereign herb and Paeoniae Radix Alba as the minister herb, both are cooling substances suitable for treating Liver Blood-Heat with Blood Collapse, but not suitable for Qi Deficiency with Blood Collapse. Even the lower abdominal pain here is due to Blood Deficiency. The brilliance lies in the use of wine, which eliminates pathogens while preserving vital energy.) Another prescription contains Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) etc., taken with wine, treating leukorrhea and umbilical/abdominal pain.
Baihuang San (Cacumen Platycladi and Polygonatum Powder) treats continuous menstrual bleeding.
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang 2 qian 5 fen) Ce Baiye (Folium Platycladi) Puhuang (Spora Typhae, each 1 liang) Fulonggan (Cinis Cautis Caulis Tritici, 2 liang, i.e., heart of the hearth earth.)
Cut the above ingredients coarsely. Add two sheng of water, decoct to obtain eight ge, and divide into two doses.
Another prescription treats persistent Bingzhong where blood coagulates into blood clumps, resembling the color and texture of crushed chicken liver. (Blood clumps resembling chicken liver indicate insufficient blood with stasis, hence the pale-dark color; this is why Chuanxiong serves as the sovereign herb.)
Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 12 fen) Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) Fulonggan (Cinis Cautis Caulis Tritici, each 11 fen) (Originally intended to clear Liver Heat and further nourish Spleen/Stomach origin) Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) Qing Zhuru (Spiritus Bambusae in Taedia) each 8 fen Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 6 fen) Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix) Diyü (Sanguisorbae Radix)
Add nine zhan of water to the above, boil down to three zhan, remove dregs, and divide into three doses.
Fulonggan San (Hearth Earth Powder) treats Qi and Blood exhaustion, deficiency of the Chong and Ren meridians. As stated in the classics: sudden non-menstrual heavy bleeding, or discharge like bean curd juice, or forming blood clumps, or mixing five colors, or alternating red and white, cold pain in the umbilical and abdominal region, persisting for a long time, causing sallow emaciation, dry mouth, reduced appetite, weakness in the four limbs, emptiness with vexation, palpitations, and fright.
Fulonggan (Cinis Cautis Caulis Tritici) Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubrum, each 1 liang) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 3 liang) Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) Aiye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi, slightly stir-fried, each 2 liang) Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed, 0.5 liang) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, each 7 qian 5 fen) Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, each 0.5 liang)
Grind the above into coarse powder. For each dose of 4 qian, add one jujube, decoct together with water.
Diyü San (Sanguisorbae Radix Powder) treats women's Bingzhong and continuous metrorrhagia.
Diyü (Sanguisorbae Radix) Puhuang (Spore Typhae) Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Baifuling (Poria) Baiye (Cacumen Platycladi, slightly stir-fried) Xiezhua (Unguis Potorii, slightly stir-fried) Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) Lujiaojiao (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum Preparatum, broken and stir-fried until yellow) Loulu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba) each 1 liang Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) each 7 qian 5 fen Fulonggan (Cinis Cautis Caulis Tritici, 1.5 liang) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, processed) Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried until reddish, each 0.5 liang)
Chop the above finely. For each dose of 3 qian, add one zhong of water and one fen of Zhuru (Bambusa Textilis interior), decoct until seven parts remain, remove residue, and take warm before meals. (This prescription contains both warming and cooling herbs. For breaking stasis and relieving pain, nothing surpasses Unguis Potorii; for tonifying blood and ascending, nothing surpasses Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum Preparatum; the effects of the rest can be inferred analogously. Loulu entering the Yangming meridian is particularly excellent.)
Note: Fulonggan (Cinis Cautis Caulis Tritici) is the supreme medicine for stopping bleeding, likely because its dryness can eliminate dampness. Ancient experts treated Bingzhong using Xuanjufhua (Inulae Flos) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), stopping bleeding by treating phlegm-dampness in the diaphragm, which follows the same principle. (Treating Bingzhong with Inulae Flos and Pinelliae Rhizoma is equivalent to treating phlegm-diarrhea; if the Bingzhong is indeed caused by phlegm, failing to use these would merely lead to blaming the ineffectiveness of blood-stopping herbs.)
Puhuang San (Spore Typhae Powder) treats uncontrollable Bingzhong. (This is also a potent agent with warming, cooling, drying, and astringent properties, capable of stopping bleeding and breaking stasis. It can also treat leukorrhea.)
Puhuang (Spore Typhae, stir-fried) Poguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus, stir-fried) Qiannian Guduan Shi (Ancient Hammered Iron Ore, stir-fried, equal parts)
Grind the above into a fine powder. Take 2-3 qian per dose, mixed with light wine or vinegar soup.
Pili San (Thunderbolt Powder) treats erratic meridian flow.
Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma, 3 liang) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Duanshi (Hammered Iron Ore, oil-fried, each 1 liang)
Grind the above into a fine powder. Heat a scale weight until red, quench it in wine, mix the liquid, and take two qianbi (small spoonfuls). (The previous prescription stops bleeding by warming the Lower Jiao; this prescription regulates Qi and Blood and employs drying/astringent actions, thus differing significantly. This version lacks the term "Qiannian" [thousand-year] and uses oil-frying, still cautioning against excessive dryness-heat. The name "Pili" [Thunderbolt] refers to the sound made when the hot scale weight is thrown into wine, perhaps also implying rapid efficacy through acoustic resonance.)
Lurong San (Deer Antler Powder) treats persistent Bingzhong and metrorrhagia, deficiency, emaciation, and wasting.
Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, 2 liang, hair removed, coated with butter and roasted until slightly yellow) Bailonggu (Os Draconis et Ossis Mastodi) Biejia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, coated with butter and roasted until yellow, skirt removed) Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Baishizhi (Halloysit Album) Wouyu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha, roasted until yellow) Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix) each 1 liang Roubanrong (Cynomorphi Herba, 1.5 liang, soaked in wine, skin removed, dried by roasting)
Grind the above into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with porridge drink before meals. (Biejia is a Yin herb of the lower part but unblocks the Yang of the Kidney meridian, descending from the spine to the yin organs; Roubanrong is a Yang herb of the lower part, benefiting the Yang of Kan [Kidney] and tonifying True Fire, hence called Hei Siming Shi [Black Life-Governing Stone]. The effects of other herbs can be deduced similarly; Bone Marrow and Cynomorum serve as assistants to Folium Artemisiae Argyi.)
Bugong Wan (Uterus-Tonifying Pill) treats various deficiencies in women, prolonged infertility, bone-steaming fever, emaciation, Bingzhong, and leukorrhea.
Baiwei (Cleomidis Herba) Muli (Concha Ostreae) Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Lujiaoshuang (Cornu Cervi Degelatinum) Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Baifuling (Poria) Wouyu Gu (Sepiae Endoconcha) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (equal parts)
Grind the above into a fine powder, mix with wheat paste to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills per dose, swallowed with rice water on an empty stomach.
Muli Wan (Oyster Shell Pill) treats continuous menstruation unresponsive to other medications.
Muli (Concha Ostreae) calcined and ground fine, mixed with vinegar to form pills, calcined again until red-hot, cooled, ground fine to remove fire toxicity, then mixed with vinegar and Artemisia powder, boiled into a paste, and formed into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills per dose, washed down with vinegar-Artemisia soup.
Another prescription treats women's blood collapse.
Can Sha (Bombyx Batryticatus excrement, stir-fried 1 liang) (Silkworm excrement has the qualities of fragrance, coolness, and dryness; effective even when taken alone. Those from the first and second silkworm generations are best, possessing the wonder of generating life.) Fulonggan (Cinis Cautis Caulis Tritici, 0.5 liang) Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 1 liang)
Grind the above into powder. Take 2-3 qian mixed with warm wine on an empty stomach. (Named Bibi San in *Daquan*, without Ejiao.)
