The *Jingui Yaolue* states: Women's diseases often arise from deficiency, accumulation of cold, and stagnation of qi. Menstruation may cease, sometimes for years. Blood cold accumulates and knots in the uterus (Bao Men), damaging the meridians (leading to consumption of yin blood). If cold condenses in the upper jiao, it causes vomiting of saliva and phlegm; over time, this develops into lung abscess (Fei Yong), resulting in emaciation. If cold knots in the middle jiao, it presents as cold hernia (Han Shan) around the navel; or pain in both hypochondria connected to the zang organs; or heat knotting in the center at the Guanyuan point. The pulse is rapid but there are no sores on the skin; the skin is dry like fish scales. This condition can also affect men, not just women. When symptoms are less prominent in the lower jiao, menstruation becomes irregular, causing pulling pain in the yin region and aversion to cold in the lower abdomen; or pain radiating to the waist and spine, extending down to the Qichong point, where there is urgent pain, and painful restlessness in the knees and shins. Sudden dizziness and vertigo occur, resembling Jue syndrome or Dian syndrome (epilepsy/mania); or the patient may feel depressed, sad, and irritable. All these belong to Dai Xia disease (leukorrhea-related disorders), not caused by ghosts or spirits. Prolonged illness leads to emaciation and a deficient, cold pulse. Among the thirty-six gynecological diseases, manifestations vary endlessly; one must examine the pulse for yin/yang, deficiency/excess, tightness, and wiriness. Applying acupuncture and herbs can turn critical conditions to safety. Although diseases may appear similar, their pulse origins differ; students must distinguish and record these carefully, do not say otherwise.
Zhang Zihe stated: For women with amenorrhea, Cha Tiao San (Tea Regulation Powder) can be used to induce vomiting (Note: Only those who can master Zhang Zihe's techniques should use this method; others should not. While vomiting is a valid method, it is unsuitable for patients with weak constitution). Subsequently, formulas such as Yu Zhu San (Jade Candle Powder), Xiong Gui Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction), San He Tang (Three Harmonies Decoction), or Gui Ling Bai Zhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala and Poria Decoction) should be used to descend heart fire, tonify kidney water, open the stomach to promote appetite, balance yin and yang, and promote urination.
A female patient presented with amenorrhea, alternating chills and fever, dry mouth, flushed cheeks, reduced appetite, and occasional coughing (one or two times day and night). Other physicians prescribed toxic substances such as Meng Chong (Bloodsucker Fly Larvae), Shui Zhi (Leech), Gan Qi (Dried Resin of Toxicodendron), Nao Sha (Sal Ammoniac), Yuan Qing (Blister Beetle), Hong Niang Zi (Red Ladybug), Mo Yao (Myrrh), and Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood). Only Dai Ren (Zhang Zihe) disagreed. He said: Although ancient formulas include these methods, patients taking them inevitably suffer abdominal pain and loss of appetite. He ordered the cessation of medication, after which her appetite gradually returned. The *Neijing* states: "Diseases of the Yang Ming channel originate from the Heart and Spleen." If the Heart is affected, blood flow is obstructed, leading to amenorrhea in women. Since the Heart has accumulated heat, one should suppress heart fire, raise kidney water, circulate fluids to moisten dryness, and stimulate appetite. He induced vomiting to expel one to two sheng of phlegm (Only suitable for patients with phlegm and robust constitution/excess pathogen). He then administered purgatives to discharge water five to six times. With dampness and fluid retention cleared from above and below, qi and blood flowed naturally, and menstruation resumed on schedule without being blocked by dampness. No toxic drugs like leeches or flies were used; had they been used, menstruation might have occurred but urinary retention would follow, generating other complications. For patients with insufficient essence and blood, dietary tonification is appropriate; toxic drugs are strictly contraindicated, as excessive use has led to many premature deaths.
Another patient, aged 34, presented with amenorrhea, alternating chills and fever, sallow complexion, cracked lips, flushed cheeks, and occasional coughing (two or three times). Regarding her previous treatments, she had taken Hei Shen San (Black Divine Powder), Wu Jin Wan (Black Gold Pill), Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction), Shao Gan San (Roasted Liver Powder), Bie Jia San (Turtle Shell Powder), Jian Zhong Tang (Establish the Middle Decoction), Ning Fei San (Calming Lung Powder), and undergone thousands of acupuncture and moxibustion sessions, yet her condition worsened. Her family lost hope and refused further treatment. Dai Ren pitied her and first induced vomiting to expel five to six sheng of phlegm. Vomiting finished before noon; she ate after noon, and signs of fluid retention disappeared completely (Caution: This is a heavy method suitable only for patients with robust physique and excess pathogen; do not try lightly). Three days later, he induced mild vomiting again, expelling another one to two sheng of phlegm; her appetite improved further. A few days later, she took Tong Jing San (Menstruation Unblocking Powder), resulting in the discharge of one to two sheng of fluid. Within several days, layers of dead skin peeled off, small pieces like bran flakes, large pieces like reed membranes. Within a month, menstruation resumed spontaneously, and her spirit and vitality greatly recovered.
