据《异物志》记载：该药产于西域。二月开花，四月、五月结出像瓜大小的果实。具有益气（补益元气）、安神（安定神志）、养血（滋养血液）、生肌（促进肌肉生长）的功效。长期服用能使人身体强健。（引自《大观本草》第二十三卷第43页；《政和本草》第480页）
据刘斯《交州记》记载：其果实中含有乳汁，汁液甜美芳香，性微寒，无毒。主治消渴烦热（口渴多饮且伴有烦躁发热），镇心安神。长期服用能使身体轻盈，也能使人的面色红润悦目。（引自《大观本草》第二十三卷第43页；《政和本草》第480页）

According to the *Yiwuzhi* (Record of Strange Things): It grows in the Western Regions. It flowers in February and bears fruit resembling melons in April and May. According to Liu Si's *Jiaozhou Ji* (Records of Jiaozhou): The fruit contains a milky juice that is sweet, fragrant, and pleasant. It is slightly cold in nature and non-toxic. It treats Xiao Ke Fan Re (wasting-thirst with irritability and heat) and stabilizes the Heart and calms the mind. Long-term consumption lightens the body and enhances complexion. The fruit is spherical and harvested in August. It is a staple food for the local people. It treats deficiency emaciation and depletion, warms the Stomach and Intestines, and stops vomiting and rebellious Qi. Long-term consumption strengthens the body.
