Choulingdan (Akebia Caulis or related species, also known as Lion Grass), one name is Shizicao. Bitter and acrid in taste, cold in nature, toxic. It belongs to yang within yin. It treats accumulated toxins from wind-heat and harmonizes the zang-fu organs. It circulates through the twelve meridians and dissipates sores and carbuncles. When the five zang organs are disharmonious, accumulated heat becomes toxin, producing ju and jie (abscesses and boils). Heat-toxin enters the blood level, causing skin diseases like jie lai (scabies and leprosy-like conditions). Eating too much beef or horse meat causes accumulated heat-toxin, leading to recurrent ju and jie, or mild cases of xuefeng xuanchuang (blood-wind tinea). It causes discomfort and rumbling in the chest and diaphragm, nausea and vomiting due to heart disturbance. The skin itches, and there is irritability and restlessness. For all wind-heat toxic sores, taking this herb is highly effective.
After harvesting, dry in the shade and grind into powder. Take 1 qian each time, dissolved in boiling water and taken with wine. For infants after smallpox, when toxins remain un-discharged and wounds fail to close, apply leaves of Choulingdan externally to heal.
(Single Herb Prescription) To arrest malaria. Take seven tips of Lingdan grass, crush to extract juice, and take with wine.
