[Lei Xiao said] When using it, do not use the thick heads and large tails, as these are Konggong Stone (Konggong Shi), which should not be used. Those that are black in color, have been subjected to intense fire heat, or have been stored on the ground for a long time [are also unsuitable].
[Meng Shen said] For medicinal use, after calcining, process with water levigation; those that congeal into a white substance are of superior quality.
[Li Shizhen said] For processing, calcine until red-hot in fire, quench in wine seven times, grind into fine powder, then perform water levigation, and dry in the sun. There is also a method where it is soaked in distilled spirits, combined with Camphora (Zhangnao, 樟脑), placed in a jar, and sublimated to obtain the powder.
[Lei Xiao said] For processing one jin (approx. 500-600g), use one yi (approx. 12-16 taels) of Wuhua Pi (Bark of Five-flower Vine), one yi of Diyü (Radix Sanguisorbae), and fifteen liang of old cotton wool. Cleave all three ingredients together. Pound them on a stone until they are crushed into dust-like particles.
[Lei Xiao said] When using, grind into fine powder, and repeatedly perform water levigation with water from the twelfth lunar month. Discard any reddish film resembling thin clouds floating on the water surface. Then, decoct with strong tea infusion for one shichen (two hours). Remove and grind ten thousand times. Heat a clean iron pan until red-hot, add one liang of White Beeswax (Mila, 白蜜蜡), wait for it to melt, pour in fresh well water to quench, boil again for twenty to thirty cycles, and collect the residue/powder for storage/use.
[Tao Hongjing said] When using, grind finely and wash with water (taoliao), collect the liquid, let it settle, ensuring no sand or soil remains.
[Lei Xiao said] See Taiyi Xia.
[Lei Xiao said] For processing, use five he of Black Soybeans (Heidou, 黑豆) and five he of Polygonatum Rhizome (Huangjing, 黄精), with two dou of water. Decoct until five sheng remain. Place in a porcelain pot, add four liang of Yuliang (Dysosma Verrucosa Root/Rhizome or similar earthy mineral/herb contextually), continue decocting while adding water as needed, until the liquid is exhausted. The medicine will naturally smell fragrant like new rice. Pound it, then grind ten thousand times before use.
[Lei Xiao said] When using, do not use those containing stone impurities or Copper Green (Tongqing, 铜青). For every one liang, use three ingredients: Zi Bei Tian Kui (Omphalodes Verticillata Herb), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), and Qing Zhi Cao (Green Mushroom Grass), each weighing one yi (dry or wet state). Cleave finely and bathe in water.
[Lei Xiao said] When using, place in a small porcelain bottle. Add two ingredients: Zi Bei Tian Kui (Omphalodes Verticillata Herb) and Shilong Rui (Batrachium Rivulare Herb). Calcine by fire from Si hour (9-11 AM) to Shen hour (3-5 PM). Then soak in Licorice Water (Gancao Shui, 甘草水) from Shen hour (3-5 PM) to Zi hour (11 PM-1 AM). Remove, wipe dry, place back in the bottle, calcine again, and separately grind thirty thousand times before use.
[Li Shizhen said] Physicians all say that raw Arsenic Trioxide (Pishi, 砒石) becomes extremely toxic when exposed to fire. Is this true?
