If the disease does not correspond to the Qi of the current year, observe which year's Qi it resembles. Seek the therapeutic principles from that specific year, and you will realize that all truths are contained within the *Zhi Zhen Yao Da Lun* (Treatise on the Supreme Truth). Bian Que stated: "Excess Yin leads to cold diseases; excess Yang leads to heat diseases; excess Wind leads to diseases of the extremities; excess Rain/Dampness leads to abdominal diseases; excess darkness (referring to nocturnal indulgence) leads to confused mental states; excess brightness (referring to diurnal depletion or excessive activity) leads to heart diseases." The Classics state: "One must first ascertain the annual Sui Qi (Yearly Climate), and not violate the Tian He (Natural Harmony of Heaven and Humanity)." It also states: "He who does not understand the Jia Zi (Heavenly Stem additions) and the waxing and waning of the Qi cannot be a physician." Students should integrate these observations, refine their understanding of pulse and syndrome differentiation, and thereby attain personal insight. Alas, the Way of Confucianism lies in breadth and simplicity; the Way of Medicine lies in Yun Qi (Five Movements and Six Qi). How can students fail to enter through this gate and seek its profound mysteries?
According to the principles of Yun Qi, there is no place where they do not apply, and nothing is overlooked. Even subtle phenomena invariably stem from them. This is especially critical for seasonal epidemics in the current year. Even imbalances of the Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Sorrow, Fear, Fright) silently conform to these patterns. However, profound theories and subtle expressions are difficult to comprehend abruptly. Without accumulated effort and exploration reaching a state of spiritual acuity, one cannot grasp them. How much less could a dull-minded person dare to peek at its threshold! This chapter removes redundancy and serves as a ladder for beginners, sparing them the toil of overwhelming complexity. For those with broad and profound knowledge, whose chests already hold complete meanings, viewing these metaphorical tools (like fish traps and rabbit snares) is akin to chewing snow—tasteless. Whether I am understood or blamed, it lies here.
When Yun Qi (Movement Qi) and Tian Qi (Heavenly Qi) are identical, it is called **Tian Fu** (Heavenly符/Signature).
When Tian Qi generates Yun Qi, it is called **Shun Hua** (Smooth Transformation).
When Tian Qi controls Yun Qi, it is called **Tian Xing** (Heavenly Punishment).
When Yun Qi generates Tian Qi, it is called **Xiao Ni** (Minor Rebellion).
When Yun Qi controls Tian Qi, it is called **Bu He** (Disaccord).
