Sweating disorders are divided into spontaneous sweating and night sweats, a distinction that must be understood. Generally speaking, spontaneous sweating (Zi Han) is due to Yang deficiency, occurring naturally without physical exertion. Night sweats (Dao Han) are due to Yin deficiency, characterized by sweating during sleep and cessation upon waking. Moxibustion applied to Chize (LU-5) can yield results. If efficacy is not achieved, moxibustion on Geshu (BL-17) will surely lead to complete recovery.
Chize (see Stroke).
Geshu (located 2 cun lateral to the spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra; take the point with the patient sitting upright).
Prolonged coughing leads to Lung Qi deficiency, resulting in Lung萎 (Lung Wei, Lung Flaccidity). "Wei" means withering, similar to the falling of leaves and branches. Symptoms include frequent expectoration of saliva and froth, hoarseness, or coughing up blood-streaked sputum, along with emaciation and a sallow complexion. This syndrome is mostly deficient in nature and cannot be compared to Lung Abscess (Fei Yong), which is an excess syndrome. One should first apply moxibustion to Feishu (BL-13) and concurrently moxibustion on Gaohuang (BL-43).
Feishu, Gaohuang (both see Labor Injury).
Unrelenting chronic cough accompanied by dull pain in the chest, expectoration of foul-smelling sputum, or vomiting of pus mixed with blood, constitutes Lung Abscess (Fei Yong). "Yong" implies obstruction. It is largely caused by internal stagnation of Wind-Cold, which over time transforms into Fire, damaging the Metal organ (Lung) through excessive heat. The treatment method should involve moxibustion on Tiantu (CV-22) combined with the administration of formulas for clearing Lung heat, which may prove effective.
Tiantu (see Asthma).
*Zhengchuan* states: Jingji (Palpitations due to fright) refers to a sudden feeling of alarm and inner restlessness, with episodes occurring at specific times. Zhengchong (Severe palpitations) refers to a constant state of inner trembling and unrest, with episodes occurring at any time. Although physicians distinguish between these two, generally, moxibustion on Shangwan (CV-13) is appropriate.
Shangwan (see Labor Injury).
Forgetting past events and losing track of subsequent matters is called Jianwang (Amnesia/Memory Loss). This is primarily caused by a shortage of Spirit and Qi, leading to a failure of Shen (Spirit) and Zhi (Will) to interact. It can also result from excessive mental labor, unfulfilled desires, or Phlegm turbidity clouding the Pericardium. Although the etiologies differ, all cases should be treated by moxibustion on Baihui (GV-20) to strengthen memory.
Baihui (see Stroke).
Yangwei (Impotence) refers to the flaccidity of the penis and inability to achieve erection. It is common in elderly individuals. However, if it occurs in young and vigorous adults, it indicates a decline of True Fire (Kidney Yang). The treatment method should involve moxibustion on Qihai (CV-6).
Qihai (see Labor Injury).
Retraction of the penis and inward withdrawal of the testicles into the abdomen both belong to Yin syndromes. The treatment should preferably begin with moxibustion on Qihai (CV-6), followed by moxibustion on Dazhui (GV-14).
Qihai (see Labor Injury).
Dazhui (see Corpse Stupor).
