Method for Making Needles:
According to Materia Medica, iron from horse bits is non-toxic. Ri Hua Zi stated that old iron ingots are good, or they can be made into needles by medical artisans. According to Materia Medica, iron heated red-hot from mulberry wood is toxic. Therefore, fire is used to detoxify it, as Fire overcomes Metal, resolving the toxicity of iron. Thus, iron processed this way for making needles is highly valued. "Metal" is a general term for metals, including copper and iron.
Method for Boiling Needles:
First, heat an iron wire until red-hot in the fire, then cut it. Lengths can be 2 cun or 5 cun, no restriction on length. Next, coat the needle with Bufo Toxin (Chansu), and briefly reheat it in the fire. Apply Chansu coating three times. On the third application, while hot, insert the needle into the inner side of cured meat skin (outside the meat). Decoct the following herbs first:
Moschus (She Xiang, 5 fen)
Vitriolum Cupri et Ferri (Danfan, 1 qian)
Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu, 1 qian)
Manis Squama (Chuanshanjia, 3 qian)

These herbs guide the medicinal properties into the iron needle.
