Feilong Duoming Dan (Flying Dragon Snatching Life Pill) treats all types of Ding sores, malignant swellings, and carbuncles/ulcers in the initial stage, or when they have developed black depression with internal sinking of toxic factors.
Arisaema Cum Bile (Tiannanxing), Realgar (Xionghuang), Croton Seed (Badou) (each 1 qian), Sand, Yellow Lead Oxide (Huandan), Arsenolite (Xinshi), Frankincense (Ruxiang) (each 0.5 qian), Mylabris (Banchao) (16 pieces, remove wings and feet), Musk (Shexiang) (a small amount).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with Toad Venom (Chansu) to form pills the size of yellow millet seeds. Take 11-12 or 14-15 pills per dose. Administer with good wine according to the location of the sore (upper or lower) and timing relative to meals. Adjust dosage based on the patient's deficiency or excess constitution. Avoid greasy foods, fish, meat, and other animal products for seven days.
Note: This formula is commonly used by the secular world and thus included here. Due to its aromatic, penetrating, dry, and toxic nature, it reaches all meridians, thereby capable of inducing sweating, vomiting, and purgation. It is effective for conditions caused by toxins from poultry and livestock ingested through diet, as well as for sores presenting with deep, tight, fine, or rapid pulses indicating internal accumulation of toxin combined with dampness. However, people often fail to differentiate indications. It should not be used lightly for cases with severe heat and thirst, where toxic qi manifests on the exterior with floating and forceful pulses, or for individuals with accumulated heat from rich diets. Moreover, some substitute Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) for Realgar, ignoring Realgar’s specific indication for various sores and severe wind-toxin affecting the joints and sudden collapse. This formula, along with Guo Shi’s two formulas, belongs to the examples of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart meridian; this one demonstrates a method treating both interior and exterior.
Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang (Five-Aromatic and Forsythia Decoction) treats various sores and swellings. If treated within one or two days of onset, symptoms such as cold extremities, throat obstruction, chills, and fever may occur.
Agarwood (Chenxiang), Costus Root (Muxiang), Musk (Shexiang), Forsythia Fruit (Liaoqiao), Belamcanda Rhizome (Shegan), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Shengma), Clove (Dingxiang], Angelica Pubescens Root (Duhuo), Mulberry Parasite (Sangjisheng), Prepared Licorice Root (Zhigancao) (each 1 liang), Rhubarb (Dahuang) (1.5 liang), Akebia Stem (Mutong), Frankincense (Ruxiang) (each 2 liang).
Cut the above ingredients into small pieces. Take 5 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water, decoct until reduced to 0.7 cup, and take warm. The goal is to achieve bowel movement.
Note: Danxi stated in "Jingyao" Volume One: "Regardless of whether carbuncles, ulcers, sores, or boils are due to deficiency/excess or cold/heat, first administer Neituo San, Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang, Chen She Tang, and other formulas, which are neither cold nor hot." He further claimed: "Regardless of age, constitution, yin/yang, deficiency/excess, or cold/heat, taking large doses is excellent." However, carbuncles, ulcers, sores, and boils involve different depths of zang-fu and yin-yang, varying degrees of deficiency/excess and cold/heat, requiring tonifying/purging and warming/cooling methods accordingly. Patients vary in innate constitution and physical/mental stress, so drug dosages should be adjusted by age. How can one rely on four or five formulas that are neither cold nor hot to treat all conditions universally? And how can taking large doses be considered ideal? Such claims warrant doubt. Practitioners must examine the meridians and investigate the pathogenesis to determine treatment. Generally, these cannot serve as universal remedies.
