(Continued from previous text:) Huo Da (a symptom of severe deficiency) and cold feet indicate that the Yang within Yin is also deficient. The Kidney Qi fails to descend and anchor. The wife of Shen Yukun occasionally suffered from epigastric pain. Fan Mou prescribed Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), which stopped the pain, but fever and sore throat appeared. Gu Tingquan recognized it as an invasion by Warm Pathogens and prescribed a Clearing and Resolving method. Although the pain ceased, the fever persisted. Seven days later, her eyes were closed, nose was blocked, she was deaf, limbs were convulsing, she did not speak or eat. Meng Ying went to examine her. Seeing such severe external symptoms, he noted that after finishing the pulse diagnosis on the left hand, she immediately withdrew it, then extended her right hand for examination. He said: "This is not coma." Then he pried open her teeth and observed that the tongue coating was white and slippery. Upon inquiry, he learned that she had not had a bowel movement. He said: "This is Wind-Warmth disease. However, instead of transmitting reversely to the Pericardium, it transmitted sequentially to the Stomach Fu-organ. There is no need to fear this syndrome. Although this case appears terrifying, she originally had Phlegm-Fluids stagnating in the chest, allowing the external pathogen to take hold. The reason the tongue coating does not appear yellow and dry is due to this. It must not be mistaken for Cold. The pulse presents as wiry, slippery, and rapid. Once the Phlegm-Fluids descend, the tongue coating will surely turn yellow. Ancients only spoke of reverse transmission in Warm diseases, ignoring sequential transmission. Later generations erroneously held that Shanghan (Cold Damage) affects the Foot meridians while Warm diseases affect the Hand meridians, unaware that meridians are interconnected and cannot be strictly bounded. Yu Jiayan stated that Shanghan also affects the Hand meridians, but the Foot meridians are affected first. I argue that Warm diseases also affect the Foot meridians, but the Hand meridians are affected first. Generally, when the disease progresses from the Lung to the Pericardium, the pathological mechanism advances inward, hence called 'reverse'. When it progresses from the Lung to the Stomach, the pathological mechanism seeks to exit downward, hence called 'sequential'. Although the pathogen has transmitted sequentially now, it desires to exit but cannot. As the saying goes, 'When the Stomach is diseased, the nine orifices are discordant.' This is vastly different from the Xi Jiao Di Huang Tang (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) syndrome of reverse transmission causing coma. Gu Yuntai said: 'Stomach excess and discordance, administering Meng Tan Wan (Rolling Phlegm Pill) is not overly harsh,' which can be considered the true principle for treating this illness." Thus, he prescribed Xiao Xian Xiong Tang (Minor Triumphant Chest Decoction) combined with Juan Yin Liu Shen Tang (Eliminate Fluids Six-God Decoction) plus Zhi Ke (Aurantium Fructus) and Hou Po (Magnolia Bark), decocted with Radish (Lu Fu) water, mixed with one cup of Bamboo Sap (Zhu Li) to swallow 4 qian of Meng Tan Wan. He also said: "Since one suffers a terrifying illness, one must take terrifying medicine. If the medicine does not cause dizziness/disorientation (Mingxuan), the serious illness will not heal." (If Heat pathogens transmit reversely to the Pericardium causing coma, Xi Jiao Di Huang Tang is appropriate. If they transmit suddenly to the Stomach causing constipation, Meng Tan Wan or similar formulas are appropriate. In this case, the Right Guan pulse must be wiry, slippery, rapid, and forceful upon heavy pressure. At this stage, Juan Yin Liu Shen is added with Hou Po. Because the coating is white and slippery, acrid-warm herbs must be added among the bitter-cold ones. Ginger-fried Chuan Lian Zi (Coptis Rhizome) 8 fen, Processed Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber) Mi 3 qian, Shi Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome) added next 1 qian, Chen Dan Xing (Areca Seed processed with bile) stewed and mixed 1 qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inula Flower) wrapped in silk 3 qian, Lai Ju Hong (Citrus Peel) 1.5 qian, Fried Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange) 1.5 qian, Processed Gen Po (Magnolia Bark) 2 qian, Lu Fu sliced 1 liang decocted as water substitute, mixed with Ginger-Zhu Li 1 wine glass, medicine delivers Meng Tan Wan 4 qian.) On the following day's examination, the pulse and symptoms had not decreased significantly. Inquiry revealed that yesterday's medicine was taken in several doses. Meng Ying said: "This is because the force is dispersed and slow." Follow this method of administration. At dawn, she indeed expelled several sheng of sticky, turbid phlegm, and all ailments immediately lessened. She could barely speak, drank a little thin porridge, and the tongue coating turned yellow and dry. The medication was changed to lighter and clearer agents, gradually leading to peace. Subsequently, nourishing Yin and softening the Liver herbs were given until recovery.
Madam Zhu feared medicine since childhood; even very mild preparations caused vomiting upon ingestion. Recently, she suffered from evening chills and night fevers, nocturnal sweating, dry throat, cough, and hypochondriac pain. After over a month, her appetite decreased, menstruation became scant, muscles wasted, and spirit fatigued. Meng Ying diagnosed: Left hand pulse wiry and rapid, right side pulse choppy and weak. He said: "Due to much depression and excessive thinking, this is what is called 'disease originating in Heart and Spleen'. Given her past fear of medicine, how can we force strong medicines to further damage her Stomach?" He used Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Xiao Mai (Wheat), Hong Zao (Jujube), and Ou (Lotus Root) four ingredients, instructing her to decoct them into soup and drink frequently without stopping. The patient took it day and night. After ten days, re-examination showed significant reduction in pulse and symptoms. Meng Ying said: "This is Zhong Jing's excellent formula for Zang Dryness. I replaced Da Zao (Large Jujube) with Hong Zao, taking advantage of its red color to tonify Heart and fragrant qi to please Stomach. Added Ou to relieve depression and soothe emotions. Combined, Gan Mai can tonify Qi and Blood, moisten dryness, and ease urgency. Adhering to this for two months, she recovered completely." (Sheng Fen Cao 3 qian, Lian Pi Fei Ou sliced first 2 liang, Bei Xiao Mai pounded 4 qian, Hong Zao split first 4 qian.)
Jiang Mou, in his thirties, suddenly developed red eyes, swollen and painful gums, ran about cursing people, disregarding elders. Meng Ying diagnosed: Pulse large and rapid, empty and scattered upon heavy pressure. He prescribed Dong Yang Shen (Korean Ginseng), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia), Chen Sha (Cinnabar), Ci Shi (Magnetite), Long Chi (Dragon Teeth), Chang Pu (Acorus), Zao Ren (Jujube Seed), Hu Po (Amber), Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark), Jin Bo (Gold Leaf), and Long Yan Rou (Longan Aril) as a formula. One dose brought immediate relief. (Large pulse indicates deficiency; rapid indicates Yin deficiency with heat; empty/scattered upon heavy pressure indicates extreme deficiency of Yang within Yin. Gao Li Shen 3 qian, Fried Song Shu Di 8 qian, Whole Chen Sha 5 qian, Ling Ci Shi 1 liang, Long Chi 8 qian, these three charred and simmered for eight quarters, Jiu Jie Pu ground and added next 1 qian, Fried Zao Ren ground 3 qian, Xi Mao Po ground and flushed 4 fen, Rou Gui Xin added next 2 qian, Jin Bo added next 7 leaves, Gui Yuan Qu removed pits 3 qian.)
The wife of Jin Luqing suffered from Warm disease. Gu Tingquan continuously administered light cooling and resolving agents, but the illness did not subside. She experienced rebellious Qi, loss of taste, coughing up sticky phlegm, crimson tongue, dry throat, deafness, and delirious speech. Ten days later, Meng Ying examined her and said: "Body emaciated, pulse fine and rapid, even more chaotic at the Chi position. It is clearly Yin Qi injured first, with Yang Qi flaring alone. This is what is meant by 'Shanghan tends to kill those with lower deficiency'. After repeated inquiry, it was known that the day before fever started, she suddenly had leukorrhea like a flood; thus, true fluids had leaked early. Otherwise, the treatment would not have been erroneous, why did it spread like fire? Spasm and syncope would follow swiftly. Reluctantly prescribing Xi Yang Shen (American Ginseng), Sheng Di (Raw Rehmannia), Er Dong (Tian Dong and Mai Dong), Er Zhi (Nu Zhen Zi and Han Lian Cao), Yuan Shen (Scrophularia), Xi Jiao (Rhino Horn - note: use substitutes in modern practice), Chuan Lian Zi (Coptis), Ji Zi Huang (Egg Yolk), and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena) as a formula. Additionally, using Shi Hu (Dendrobium), Gui Ban (Turtle Shell), Bie Jia (Softshell Turtle Shell) each 4 liang, and Zuo Mu Li (Oyster Shell) 1 jin, decocted as water substitute. (Xi Yang Shen 3 qian, Da Sheng Di 8 qian, Ming Tian Dong sliced 6 qian, Hua Mai Dong 4 qian, Nu Zhen Zi pounded 5 qian, Han Lian Cao 4 qian, Yuan Shen Pian 1 liang, Slashed Xi Jiao ground and flushed 2 qian, Light salt-water fried Chuan Lian Zi 2 qian, Light salt-water fried Zhi Mu 4 qian, Three Ji Zi Huangs, protein separated. Additionally, Shi Hu, Gui Ban, Bie Jia each 4 liang, Mu Li 1 jin decocted as water substitute. Gu Tingquan added Qing E Jiao 3 qian, stewed and mixed.) After two doses, there was indeed no improvement. Later, she took warm medicines from another prescription and died with limb spasms.
An old woman suffered from right lower back pain and distension, desiring to beat it. Many medicines failed. Meng Ying saw that although her body was emaciated, her pulse was slippery with much phlegm, coating yellow, tongue crimson. He said: "Body deficiency with pathogen excess, warming and tonifying is inappropriate. If the pathogen is not attacked and removed, merely using ineffective medicines leads to increased pathogen and worsened body deficiency." First, using Xue Geng (Watermelon Radish and Salted Seaweed) plus Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings), Lian Shi (Toosendan Fruit), Lv E Mei (Green Plum), Xing Ren (Apricot Seed), Hua Fen (Trichosanthes Root), Ju Hong (Citrus Peel), Fu Ling (Poria), and Xuan Fu Hua (Inula Flower) to deliver Kong Xian Dan (Control Fluid Pill). After taking it, sticky phlegm was discharged. After three doses, the illness seemed gone. Subsequently, conditioning and tonifying led to recovery. (Slippery pulse, yellow coating, crimson tongue all indicate Heat; crimson tongue indicates Yin deficiency with heat. Lian Pi Bi Qi pounded 2 liang, Pa Dan Hai Zao soaked lightly and decocted first 1 liang, Jiang Zhu Ru 3 qian, Chuan Lian Ke pounded first 3 qian, Lv E Mei 2 qian, Ku Xing Ni 1.5 qian, Nan Hua Fen 4 qian, Lai Ju Hong 8 fen, Bai Fu Ling 1.5 qian, Xuan Fu Hua wrapped in silk 3 qian, medicine delivers Kong Xian Dan 3 qian.)
Yang Shi, a widow, suffered from diarrhea, unhealed after long treatment. Meng Ying said: "Wind Wood attacks the Stomach. Mistakenly inviting Zhang Mou to heavily administer warming and tonifying herbs caused abdominal distension, inability to eat, night fever, insomnia, acid regurgitation, constipation, and splitting headache." Seeking Meng Ying again. First, bitter-draining with acrid-unblocking agents were used to treat the effects of the previous medication. Subsequently, sour-bitter wind-extinguishing and Stomach-peaceful methods cured her within a month. Continued conditioning and tonifying ensured stability. (Widowhood depression injures Liver, Liver Yang invades Stomach, Stomach cannot overcome it leading to diarrhea, termed Wind Wood attacking Stomach. Warming/tonifying further aids Liver Yang, hence the four symptoms of distension/anorexia. Bitter-astringent/acrid-unblocking formula: Bai Tou Weng 3 qian, Jiang fried Chuan Huang Bo 3 qian, Lai Ju Hong added next 1.5 qian, Shi Chang Pu added next 1 qian, Jiang Zhu Ru 3 qian, Si Gua Luo 3 qian, Sheng Lai Fu Zi ground 3 qian, Wan Can Sha 5 qian. Sour-bitter wind-extinguishing/Stomach-peaceful formula: Lv E Mei 2 qian, Gan Sang Shen pounded 3 qian, Xian Qing Guo with pits pounded first 3, Wu Mei Rou 3 qian, Zheng Da Bai Shao pounded first 2 liang, Chuan Lian Ke pounded first 4 qian, Wine-fried Dan Zhu Ye 2 qian, Sheng Fen Cao 3 qian, Cha Shi Hu pounded first 1 liang, Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 8 qian, Hua Mai Dong 4 qian, Nan Hua Fen 5 qian.)
Yu Mou had fever for over half a month, swelling from chest to lower abdomen, pain intolerable to touch, constipation, dark urine, black tongue, dry mouth, spontaneous sweating, irritability, six pulses wiry and strong lacking Stomach Qi. He said: "This illness closely resembles the Great Jie Xiong (Knotted Chest) syndrome of Shanghan. Knotted chest with irritability is untreatable." Two days later, she passed stool and died. Meng Ying commented: "Shanghan pathogens are in the exterior; mistaken purgation causes pathogens to sink forming Jie Xiong. Without mistaken purgation, it does not form Jie Xiong. Warm pathogens are in the interior; reverse transmission to Pericardium, mistaken sweating causes internal closure and external collapse. Sequential transmission to Stomach Fu, mistaken sweating causes stagnation forming Jie Xiong. Ancients only mentioned mistaken sweating depleting Stomach juices, neglecting Jie Xiong, because Jie Xiong cases are rare. Yet it must be known. Hence recorded carefully. Yu's illness began with Ge Gen (Kudzu Root) one dose, followed by Hu Mou's Chai Ge Qiang Fang for over ten doses, brewing this condition."
Shi Shi, postpartum, suffered from wandering limb pain, ineffective treatments, extensive plaster application, constant groaning. Pulse rapid and flooding, tongue crimson, great thirst. He said: "This is not Wind-Dampness. Plasters must be removed immediately. Recent medications were likely warming-tonifying wind-dispelling agents. Ying-Blood consumed, Internal Wind about to move. Previously seeing her plump and blood-abundant, why so after birth? Likely brewed by Sheng Hua Tang, Brown Sugar, and Wine." Inquiry confirmed she took two doses of Sheng Hua Tang and eight jin of Red Brown Sugar. Fortunately, her Yin was sufficient, recovery easy. If Yin-deficient and blood-scarce, though not immediately fatal, it would inevitably become a confinement injury. Therefore, large doses of cooling-moistening Water-nourishing drugs were given. One dose showed effect, ten days peace, one month recovery. (Rapid pulse indicates Yin deficiency with heat; flooding indicates Yin deficiency. Crimson tongue, great thirst, and groaning indicate Heat invading Ying, yet remaining in Qi level. Da Sheng Di 8 qian, Ji Yin Hua 1.5 liang, Ming Tian Dong sliced 6 qian, Yuan Shen Pian 1 liang, Cha Shi Hu pounded first 1 liang, Fei Yu Zhu 3 qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu 3 qian, Bai Fu Ling 3 qian, Wu Mei Rou 3 qian, Nan Hua Fen 5 qian, Hua Mai Dong 4 qian, Wine-fried Sang Zhi 3 qian.)
Wang Shigan's wife often suffered from depression and anger, Qi gathering in abdomen, attacking epigastrium causing pain, recurring and resolving spontaneously. After age sixty, illness worsened, medical treatment aggravated it. Meng Ying diagnosed but did not prescribe, commenting: "Qi accumulation in abdomen forms Jia masses, attacking pain and vomiting belong to Liver. But the disease has lasted thirty years, past medications were likely all warming-tonifying. For instance, recent Xiaoyao San severely consumes Liver Yin, Lizhong Tang greatly damages Stomach fluids. People only know vomiting is Cold, unaware of Internal stirring of Wind-Yang causing water to boil. Exclusively using warming-tonifying, fluids gradually dry up. Physicians wrongly thought water vomiting stopped and illness lightened, failing to see water was exhausted, only hiccuping and empty retching remained, hence inability to accept food, constipation, wiry pulse lacking Stomach Qi, atrophic tongue difficult to extend. One could say women also suffer from Solitary Yang disease." Reluctantly prescribing Xi Yang Shen (American Ginseng), Rou Cong Rong (Cistanche), Mai Dong (Ophiopogon), Yu Zhu (Polygonatum), Sheng Bai Shao (Raw Peony), Shi Hu (Dendrobium), Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings), Bai Zi Shuang (Biota Seed Frost), Zi Shi Ying (Hematite) as a formula, decocted with Pork meat soup, mixed with Green Sugarcane Juice and Human Milk. After taking, vomiting and hiccups stopped, people thought it was a turning point. Meng Ying compared it to long-dried grass and trees: sudden irrigation makes branches look green, but roots are dead, life force gone, what can be done? Subsequently, millet porridge gradually increased, craving meat. Several days later, bowel movements were smooth. Meng Ying said: "Pulse not soft, tongue not moist, although food enters and bowels move, the source of generating fluids is cut off. After Summer Solstice, she will surely die." (Vomiting divided into Cold and Heat categories. This case is Liver Yang invading Stomach causing Heat vomiting, repeatedly mistreated with warming-tonifying damaging Yin, Yin essence exhausted. Many puerperal women died during summer heat from taking Sheng Hua Tang with brown sugar and wine. Meng Ying stated that Liu Yi San (Six-to-One Powder) clears Summer-Heat and moves blood stasis, truly being the first wonderful formula for postpartum conditions.
Chu Libo suffered from Malaria during intense heat. Lu Mou routinely administered Ping Wei San and Lizhong Tang, gradually reaching critical danger. Meng Ying diagnosed: Intense heat, coma, chest fullness, rebellious Qi, ginger-yellow coating, reddish-brown urine, hidden pulse, thirst, anorexia, constipation. He said: "Ignoring current Summer-Heat pathology, rigidly adhering to seasonal Qi theory for treatment is called 'using dead books to trap living people'. Fortunately, her body is plump and Yin sufficient, still salvageable. However, ten doses of Bai Hu Tang are needed for cure." Thus, he alternated formulas using Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena), Yin Hua (Jasmine/Honeysuckle - context implies Honeysuckle/Jin Yin Hua usually, here likely Jin Yin Hua or similar clearing herb), Zhi Bei (Aurantium/Fritillaria), Huang Lian (Coptis), Mu Tong (Akebia), Hua Fen (Trichosanthes), Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings), Huang Qin (Scutellaria), Xing Ren (Apricot Seed), Shi Hu (Dendrobium), Hai Zao (Seaweed) etc. After ten days, malaria decisively stopped. (Intense heat/coma six sentences: Heat pathogens all in Qi level. Heart is close to Lung/Stomach/Liver. Warming-tonifying damages Lung/Stomach Yin, causing intense heat/coma. This coma is not Heat transmitting to Ying. Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 1.2 liang, Wine-fried Zhi Mu 4 qian, Fried Zhi Ke 1.5 qian, Chuan Bei Mu pounded 1 liang, Nan Hua Fen 5 qian, Ku Xing Ni added next 1.5 qian, Jiang Zhu Ru 4 qian, Ji Yin Hua 1.5 liang. Next formula remove Zhi Mu/Yin Hua, add Wine-fried Chuan Lian Zi 1 qian, Wine-fried Ku Huang Qin 3 qian, Xi Mu Tong 1 qian, Cha Shi Hu pounded first 1 liang. Further change remove Zhi Bei, add Pa Dan Hai Zao 2 liang. Further change remove Zhu Ru, add Xian Zhu Ye added next 2 qian.)
Zhuang Diqing suffered from Malaria, great thirst preferring hot drinks, epigastric oppression, hidden pulse, greasy coating, desire to vomit. Meng Ying said: "Internal dampness abundance, external Summer-Heat invasion, method should be Clearing and Resolving. However, pulse and symptoms indicate Phlegm blocking Airway. Clearing is useless, Warming aids the villain. Should use Meng Tan Wan first to guide/open." (Hidden pulse here must be deep, solid, forceful upon heavy pressure. If hidden pulse is weak upon heavy pressure, harsh purgation is strictly forbidden. This case suits Meng Tan Wan 3 qian.) After taking, much phlegm was expectorated, pulse became wiry, slippery, and rapid, vomiting stopped, chest relaxed, coating turned yellow and dry. Given Shi Gao, Zhi Mu, Lian Po, Xing Ju, Ban Fu, Hua, Shi Hu, Chang Pu, Hua Fen etc., and recovered. (Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 8 qian, Jiang fried Zhi Mu 3 qian, Jiang fried Chuan Lian Zi 1 qian, Processed Gen Po 8 fen, Ku Xing Ni 2 qian, Wu Zhao Hong 1 qian, Ban Xia Qu 1.5 qian, Chi Fu Ling 1.5 qian, Xi Hua Shi decocted first 4 qian, Cha Shi Hu pounded first 8 qian, Shi Chang Pu added next 6 fen, Nan Hua Fen 4 qian.)
Zhuang Xiaocun suffered from Malaria. Meng Ying said: "Inhaling Summer-Heat, clearing and washing would heal. After a few days, Malaria acted severely, red eyes, delirious speech, sweat like rain. Palpating pulse flooding and slippery without order, viewing tongue deep yellow thick and dry, inquiring that she freely drank Ginger-Jujube Tea for three days, ordered her to eat one watermelon freely, formula follows Bai Hu Tang, using Sheng Shi Gao 1.6 liang." (Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 1.6 liang, Wine-fried Zhi Mu 4 qian, Huo Shui Lu Gen 2 liang, Sheng Gua Zi 4 qian, Sheng Yi Ren pounded 8 qian, Fried Zhi Ke 2 qian, Chuan Bei Mu pounded 8 qian, Nan Hua Fen 5 qian, Xian Pi Ye brushed hair added next 3 qian.)
Chen family child had fever and limb convulsions. Pediatrician gave Jing Feng (Convulsion) medicine, resulting in coma, shortness of breath, sweating, no urination. Meng Ying viewed it as Summer-Heat. Ordered banana leaves laid on mud ground for the child to lie on, administered Chen Sha Liu Yi San (Cinnabar Six-to-One Powder) plus Shi Gao, Zhi Mu, Xi Yang Shen, Zhu Ye, He Hua Lu (Lotus Dew). One dose healed. (Child limb convulsions stem from Liver Hyperactivity generating Wind. Market doctors often use warming-dispersing for Convulsion. Coma/shortness of breath indicates Liver Yang reversing upward. No urination indicates Liver Yin nearly exhausted, most dangerous. Whole Chen Sha decocted first 3 qian, Xi Hua Shi decocted first 3 qian, Sheng Fen Cao 2 qian, Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 6 qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu 2 qian, Xi Yang Shen 2 qian, Xian Zhu Ye added next 1.5 qian, He Hua Lu half wine glass taken warm. Cinnabar, Alumen, Gypsum are mineral drugs, taking heaviness to calm fright. Cinnabar calms Heart, Alumen drains Summer-Heat, Gypsum clears Stomach, Licorice moderates middle, Anemarrhena drains Summer-Heat. Combined, Bitter-Sweet transforms Yin, also extinguishes Wind. American Ginseng clears Qi Heat, Bamboo Leaf clears Exterior Heat, Lotus Dew fresh-drains to resolve Summer-Heat and extinguish Wind, aromatic-sweet enters Heart cools Ying.)
Pan Yiting suffered intense heat, drank a bowl of cold Gypsum, resulting in epigastric fullness/stuffiness, limbs gradually cold, extending above elbows and knees, hidden pulse, spontaneous sweating. Meng Ying visited and said: "Having received Summer-Heat, additionally frozen beverages ice-sealed the chest, Grand Qi cannot rotate, hence limb cold, hidden pulse, no urination/defecation. Quickly take 1 liang of Liu Yi San, stir with light salt water, clarify removing dregs, mix down with Zi Xue Dan (Purple Snow Pill) 1 qian." (Liu Yi San is the correct treatment for Summer-Heat. Mixed with Zi Xue to use acrid-aromatic to open Ice-Sealed Qi, treating mistaken Gypsum ingestion. Stirring with light salt water clarifying dregs: treating Summer-Heat values expelling pathogen, especially valuing efficacy without interference. Small amount of Zi Xue insufficient to open Ice-Sealed Qi; using 1 qian fears acrid-opening might interfere with Liu Yi San's downward draining Summer-Heat authority. Hence stir with light salt water first, ensuring acrid-opening does not impair Liu Yi San's downward effect. Clarifying dregs is necessary: although medicine drains Summer-Heat downward, Summer-Heat first injures Qi, Summer-Pathogen actually invades the highest Qi level. Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 8 qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu 3 qian, Huo Shui Lu Gen 1 liang, Sheng Dong Gua Zi 4 qian, Sheng Yi Ren pounded 8 qian, Nan Hua Fen 4 qian, Cha Shi Hu pounded first 8 qian, Jiang Zhu Li one large wine glass flushed, Xi Mu Tong 1 qian.)

(Exterior resolved no sweat, Yin deficiency unable to produce sweat. Diagnosis confirmation lies in 'Right Cun uniquely deep and rapid': Rapid indicates Yin deficiency with heat, Deep indicates Lung Heat with depression/blockage not venting. Sheng Shi Gao decocted first 8 qian, Huo Shui Wei Gen 2 liang, Sheng Dong Gua Zi 4 qian, Sheng Yi Ren pounded 8 qian, Wine-fried Ku Huang Qin 3 qian, Ku Jie Geng 3 qian, Ku Xing Ni 1.5 qian, these three added next together, Chuan Bei Mu pounded 5 qian, Xi Hua Shi 4 qian, Sheng Fen Cao 3 qian.)
