*Mi Ji* states: This condition arises from deficiency and weakness of Kidney Water and insufficiency of Liver Blood, compounded by worry, thought, fear, anger, overwork, and irregular eating habits without restraint, all of which damage the Spleen and Stomach. When the Spleen and Stomach are injured, Yang Qi sinks, and the Five Viscera cannot mutually generate. With declining Yang unable to counter Yin, vision is impaired even under lamplight or moonlight at night. Day belongs to Yang, Night to Yin; Yang governs Qi, and Yin governs Blood. The Classics state: "The eyes can see when nourished by Blood." Now, during the night when Blood should be flourishing, vision fails. Why? *Nan Jing* states: "Blood is Ying (Nutritive), Qi is Wei (Defensive); Ying circulates within the vessels, Wei circulates outside." This implies that Qi and Blood should be harmonious, without excess or deficiency. Pathology arises from imbalance. At night, Yin Qi is abundant and Yang Qi is weak; although Blood may be plentiful, Qi is insufficient. Thus, Yang Qi cannot ascend, and Yin Qi alone cannot nourish the eyes. Initially, there is dizziness, seeing unstable colors of five hues, ocular fatigue, and fluctuating vision. It is suitable to take Chonghe Yangwei Tang (Harmonizing and Stomach-Nourishing Decoction) and Siwu Bugan San (Four Substances Liver-Supplementing Powder), followed by Zhugan San (Pork Liver Powder) and Shihu Yeguang Wan (Dendrobium Night-Light Pill).
It also states: Gaofeng Neizhang (High-Wind Internal Cataract) results from extreme heat in the viscera, dual deficiency of Qi and Blood, and consumptive deficiency of the Liver and Kidneys, causing inability to see day or night. Initially due to Liver deficiency, prolonged Que Mu (Night Blindness) leads to inability to see the sun, moon, and stars, termed Qing Mang (Green Blindness), which is an incurable condition.
Boiled Liver Formula: *Haliotidis Concha* (Shi Jue Ming, one piece, ground); *Atractylodis Rhizoma* (Cang Zhu, roasted and ground, 1 qian). Stir-fry one jin (500g) of pork liver with the medicinal powder until cooked. First, fumigate the eyes over the pot's steam, then consume the liver. Take three consecutive doses for efficacy.
Another Prescription: *Haliotidis Concha* (Shi Jue Ming, one piece, fire-ground fine); Beeswax (Huang La, 2 liang, melted). Form into pills. Take one leaf of donkey liver, or scrape open pig or sheep liver with a bamboo knife, insert the pill inside, tie tightly with thread, boil until cooked, expose overnight, and stew hot for consumption in the early morning.
For Adult and Pediatric Night Blindness (Que Mu): *Haliotidis Concha* (Shi Jue Ming); *Cyathulae Semen* (Ye Ming Sha, washed, each 2 qian). Grind finely. Use 1 liang of castrated bull pork liver (sheep liver is better), cut open with a bamboo knife, insert medicine, bind with thread, place in a clay pot, and cook thoroughly in rice washing water. Consume the liver juice along with the liver before retiring.
Siwu Bugan Tang (Four Substances Liver-Supplementing Decoction): *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Dang Gui), *Prunellae Spica* (Xiakucao, each 1 qian); *Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata* (Shudi), *Paeoniae Radix Alba* (Baishao), *Cyperi Rhizoma* (Xiangfu, each 8 fen); *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Chuanxiong, 7 qian); *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao, 3 fen). Decoct in plain water and take well after meals.
Zhugan San (Pork Liver Powder): Tips of castrated bull pork liver (7 pieces); *Atractylodis Rhizoma* (Cang Zhu, 3 qian). Soak in rice washing water from early morning until evening. Boil in a jar until the water is dry, expose overnight, and take on an empty stomach. Cure within three to four doses.
