Yongquan Ju (abscess at the Yongquan acupoint, located in the center of the sole), occurs on the sole of the foot. It is also known as Jingquan Ju (Well Spring Abscess), commonly called Bingchuan Ban (Disease Penetrating Board), and alternatively referred to as Chuanku Tianshe (Piercing Cave Heavenly Snake). This condition belongs to deficiency and damage of the Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, with damp-heat sinking downward. If the lesion is elevated and swollen, and suppurates after a proper duration, the pathogenic toxin is shallow and it is easy to heal; if there is numbness or itching, the color is black and depressed without pain, and no suppuration occurs within twenty-one days, it belongs to a syndrome of Yin collapse, where the toxin is deep and difficult to save. Treatment should involve moxibustion with garlic partition, or the method of illuminating with the Divine Lamp, combined with internal administration of agents that drain dampness and detoxify. If deficiency is severe and pus formation is delayed, Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) should be administered; after ulceration, Bawei Dihuang Wan (Eight-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) or Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) should be given to nourish the source of transformation. One must absolutely avoid overusing attacking and reducing agents, which would damage the Spleen and Stomach, causing the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) to become even more deficient, often leading to untreatable conditions.
Ding (carbuncle/furuncle) on the sole of the foot, at the initial stage, resembles a small sore or blister, with a hard root, surrounded by swelling, accompanied by either pain or numbness, causing aversion to cold, headache, fever, vomiting, nausea, restlessness, and confusion. This arises from excessive consumption of rich and sweet foods, and failure to exercise caution regarding sexual activity and alcohol, resulting in the accumulation and knotting of pathogenic toxins. The Classics state: "Changes from rich and fatty foods lead to large Ding on the feet." This refers to such cases. For those suffering from this, red threads often extend to the umbilicus; one must observe clearly and urgently use a needle to pierce the end of the red thread to release evil blood. Moxibustion with garlic partition is also used: for painful areas, moxa until pain ceases; for non-painful areas, moxa until pain arises. If moxibustion does not induce pain, prick the four sides of the Ding to allow bleeding. Place one pill of Duoming Dan (Life-Snatching Pill) into the pore of the sore's head, cover with an ointment plaster, and internally administer detoxifying agents such as Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction to Overcome Toxin) or Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Formula Life-Saving Decoction), combined with interior-supporting and tonifying medicines. If the head protrudes like crystal, immediately puncture it with a knife and cover with Sheng Gao (Ascension Ointment). Alternatively, if initially presenting as a yellow blister with only a hard mass and little pain or redness, it is called Shui Ding (Water Carbuncle); it should also be pierced at the head and covered with Sheng Gao. Whenever a Ding appears on the sole of the foot, any calloused skin should be removed; otherwise, the head of the sore will be difficult to emerge.
The onset of Louti Feng (Leaking Hoof Madness) has two sources: one stems from rich wines and roasted meats, leading to deficiency of Liver and Kidney Yin, emptiness of the collaterals, and generation due to damp-heat sinking downward; the other arises among poor villagers who suffer injury to Ying Blood through labor, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood. The lesion begins in the thick-skinned area of the sole. Initially, the skin is hard, swollen, and protruding, with vague pain that comes and goes. After one or two months, it gradually breaks through, discharging turbid fluid but no pus or blood. Over time, the skin rots, the opening becomes the size of a coin, the flesh sinks inward, and the color resembles chicken liver, making weight-bearing difficult. Apply Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder), cover with Baiyu Gao (White Jade Ointment), take Bixie Shen Shi Tang (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Decoction to Drain Dampness), and concurrently take Zhibai Bawei Wan (Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, and Eight-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill). Dietary care and rest are required; it will inevitably drag on for years before healing can be achieved. Among these, if suppuration occurs, it is called Lvyan Ju (Donkey Eye Abscess), belonging to Yin deficiency with Blood heat, where damp-heat enters the collaterals and fails to transform. It is slightly easier to converge than Louti Feng. However, careful treatment is still necessary: externally apply Sheng Gao, and internally administer the same medications as before.
