Treatment for early-stage Ding Chuang (furuncle/carbuncle), presenting as a single lesion resembling a millet seed, with a white apex and no root. Initially, there is a sensation of numbness or slight itching; this is the most malignant syndrome. The condition inevitably leads to swelling dispersion and ulceration, at which point the pathogenic toxin is extremely fierce. It cannot be treated by San Xian Dan (Three Immortals Pill), thus requiring this powder. First, use a needle to puncture the center of the lesion to a depth of approximately half a cun. Once slight bleeding occurs, apply a small amount of this medicine onto the wound surface, covering it with a cool, thin plaster. Change the dressing twice daily. This preparation can confine the swelling, promote pus discharge, and extract a piece of exceptionally tough necrotic tissue, commonly referred to as the "Ding head" (core of the furuncle). Once this necrotic tissue detaches, the severe symptoms subside, making it a miraculous elixir. For Nao Ju (carbuncle on the back of the neck), Fa Bei (back carbuncle), and other stubborn ulcers, if there is tough tissue resembling sinew, or black and foul-smelling tissue adhering to healthy flesh that cannot be removed with forceps, this powder can be gently sprinkled upon the malignant tissue to accelerate its detachment. However, new granulation tissue must be protected beforehand to prevent contact with this medicine.
Ban Mao (Mylabris, seven pieces, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, discard the rice; the rice is highly toxic and should be buried in soil) Quan Xie (Scorpio, washed to remove earthy taste, stir-fried dry, three pieces) Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae, stir-fried until loose but not charred, three qian) Zhua'er Xuejie (Dragon's Blood, ground into fine powder, coarse hard lumps removed, three qian) Ru Xiang (Boswelliae Fructus, one qian) Mo Yao (Myrrhae Resina, one qian; take only the pure powder). Grind all ingredients into fine powders separately, mix evenly, and store tightly sealed.
This formula increases the dosage of Ban Mao and Quan Xie by three times each, prepared as a separate batch, to treat Dai Zhi (infection of the fingertip), characterized by initial swelling and pain without an abscess head. Apply one or two fen of the medicine to the painful area, covered with a plaster. Mild cases may resolve; severe cases will rapidly form pus, avoiding extensive tissue destruction. For sore throat, apply a small amount of this medicine externally on the neck near the painful area, covered with a plaster. After one week, remove the plaster; blisters will appear on the skin. Puncture them with a silver hairpin to drain the toxic fluid, and the sore throat will heal. Recently, a product named Yan Hou Yi Gong San (Throat Extraordinary Efficacy Powder) has been published and distributed, which is essentially this formula, known for its rapid efficacy.
(This medicine name is common in various regions, but the formulations differ. This is a family secret recipe of the Zhu clan, possessing significant clinical experience.)
For treating severe and stubborn toxins where San Xian Dan is ineffective. Its efficacy is similar to Ba Ding San (Furuncle Extraction Powder), but it extracts pus with great power yet mild intensity. Generally, if necrotic tissue has not detached, Ba Ding San is suitable; if there is no malignant tissue but pus flows frequently and the ulcer fails to heal over a long period, this pill is appropriate.
Quan Xie (Scorpio, processed as above, seven pieces) Wu Gong (Scolopendra, roasted, large specimens, seven strips) Zhi Zhu (Spider, roasted, large specimens, seven pieces) Jia Pian (Tartar Testudo, roasted, seven slices) Bai Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, roasted, seven strips) Shuang (Calomelas, pure substance, five qian). Grind all ingredients into extremely fine powders, mix evenly, and store tightly in porcelain bottles. Use a small amount sprinkled on the wound surface each time, covered with a thin plaster. For patients with deficiency-cold type ulcers, chronic non-healing ulcers, or post-ulceration yang deficiency with failure of malignant tissue to detach, sprinkle this pill; its efficacy surpasses that of San Xian Dan.
