Treats conditions such as throat ulceration, oral canker sores (kou gan), dental canker sores (ya gan), and tongue ulcers.
Take Renzhongbai (Human Urine Sediment) washed clean (2 liang), Xiniu Huang (Indian Cattle Calculus, 5 qian), Laoyueshi (Borax, 2 liang), Jizhua Chuanlian (Coptis Rhizome from Chicken Claw shape, 1 liang), Ming Xionghuang (Realgar, 1.5 liang), Zhen Chuanbei (Fritillaria Bulb), Guang Yujin (Curcuma Aromatica Rhizome) (each 8 qian), Jinyutan (i.e., Human Nail, cleaned, stir-fried until slightly scorched and loose, not too much, ground into fine powder, 6 qian), Shang Meipian (Borneol, 4 qian).
Grind each ingredient into an extremely fine powder and mix evenly. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time; it is highly effective.
[Formula Analysis] The formula Xile San has been widely circulated since Wang Mengying highly praised it. However, the Elephant Tusk Shavings in the formula are difficult to process properly; if not treated well, their texture is very hard, and applying them to the lesion is not only useless but harmful. Additionally, Biqian (a type of spider web) is not easy to find in large quantities, and this insect is quite toxic, seeming unnecessary. My former teacher, Mr. Langxian, adjusted the formula based on his experience, redefining it. After years of use, it has shown significant efficacy. It seems the original formula's power was no more than this. However, there are several types of Niuhuang; those from Guanxi are expensive. I have also tried using Niuhuang from Guangdong, which is equally effective but cheaper than the western product. In terms of actual function, they seem equal. Those who rely on hearsay might be misled by counterfeit goods claiming to be genuine. Yet, medicines should only be chosen for their suitability and efficacy; one need not specifically seek those worth cities. If one insists on valuing only the expensive, why not use gold and jade in every formula? The original formula contains Pearl Powder. The teacher stated that if Renzhongbai is used, Pearl Powder may not necessarily be superior. If one must use shellfish-derived substances to subdue yang, then Muli Jingfen (Oyster Shell Powder) is salty and cold, clears heat, has a sticky texture, promotes new tissue growth, and its efficacy surpasses that of pearl powder.
It is highly effective for treating sore throat with redness and swelling and can be added to the above two formulas.
Xiguashuang (Watermelon Frost)
After autumn cools down, pre-store watermelons of medium size. Wait until after the Frost Descent solar term, select unspoiled melons, make a small hole at the top, scoop out the flesh, leaving about 1 qian thickness of thin green rind without breaking it. Fill the hollowed melon completely with purified Puxiao (Mirabilite, do not use fire-refined nitre). Cover with the removed top. Wrap the melon in a hemp net and hang it under the eaves in a ventilated place protected from sun and rain. Place a porcelain bowl one or two inches below the melon to catch drips. After the Winter Solstice, a thick layer of frost will form on the outside of the rind. Sweep it off, grind it finely, and blow it into the throat. If juice flows from the melon into the bowl and freezes into frost due to cold weather, it can also be collected. The remaining nitre in the melon that has not dissolved should be taken out, stored for next year, put back into the melon, and allowed to form frost again.
