Qin Zi stated: "Ou" (vomiting with sound) is named for the sound, while "Tu" (spitting up) refers to the expulsion of matter; vomiting with sound but no matter is called Ou, spitting up matter without sound is called Tu, and both sound and matter are expelled together is called Ou-Tu.
These conditions are primarily governed by the Yangming Stomach organ system. Etiologies include external contraction and internal injury.
[Symptoms of Wind-Induced Vomiting] Upon accidental exposure to wind-cold, vomiting occurs immediately, accompanied by pain in the forehead, redness and heat in the face. This indicates wind pathogen invading the Yangming channel, causing stomach vomiting symptoms.
[Etiology of Wind-Induced Vomiting] Some cases result from cooling off in the wind, allowing wind-cold to enter the stomach; others occur when the stomach is empty due to hunger, allowing wind pathogen to invade via deficiency. Such circumstances all lead to vomiting.
[Pulse of Wind-Induced Vomiting] The pulse is predominantly Floating (Fu). A Floating-Tight (Fu Jin) pulse indicates Wind-Cold; a Floating-Rapid (Fu Shu) pulse indicates Wind-Heat; a Floating-Slippery (Fu Hua) pulse indicates Wind-Phlegm; a Floating-Soft (Ru) pulse indicates Wind-Dampness.
[Therapeutic Approach for Wind-Induced Vomiting] The treatment principle is to disperse wind and clear the stomach, using Fangge Pingwei San. If phlegm is present, use Fangge Erchen Tang.
Fangge Pingwei San (Wind-Dispersing and Ge Gen Decoction for Regulating the Stomach)
Ingredients: Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Gegen (Pueraria Root), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Nongpu (Magnolia Bark), Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
For Wind-Cold syndrome, add Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens); for Wind-Heat syndrome, add Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), and Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia).

[Symptoms of Cold-Induced Vomiting] Upon accidental exposure to cold, sudden vomiting occurs. There is a lingering discomfort in the chest area, no internal heat in the body, clear urine, and normal bowel movements.
[Etiology of Cold-Induced Vomiting] The patient's stomach qi is inherently cold. When exposed to seasonal cold, the cold pathogen invades, injuring the stomach and causing vomiting.
[Pulse of Cold-Induced Vomiting] The pulse is predominantly String-Tight (Xian Jin), or may appear Slow-Relaxed (Chi Huan), or Deep-Fine (Chen Xi). In severe cases, it may be Deep-Hidden (Chen Fu).
[Therapeutic Approach for Cold-Induced Vomiting] The treatment principle is to dispel cold and warm the stomach, using Lizhong Tang, Jianggui Liujunzi Tang, or Sini Tang for severe cases. For vomiting caused by Cold Damage (Shanghan), specific treatments are detailed elsewhere.
