Figure 2
(1) Hegu (LI4) belongs to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian.
(2) Zoubi (Extra Point) belongs to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian.
(3) Jiántóu (Extra Point) belongs to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian.
(4) Jiache (ST6) belongs to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian.
(5) Yifeng (TE17) belongs to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian.
[Supplementary Notes]
Hegu (LI4), also known as Tiger's Mouth, is located on the dorsum of the hand, between the first and second metacarpal bones, at the midpoint of the second metacarpal bone on the radial side.
Zoubi is located in the middle of the straight bone above the elbow, situated below Xiaoshuo (TE14) and above Qinglengyuan (TE13).
Jiántóu is located in the gap under the shoulder bone, approximately one cun lateral to Yunmen (LU2).
Jiache (ST6), also referred to as Heliao (though the text says "He", context implies Jiache location), is located eight fen below the earlobe.
Yifeng (TE17) is located behind the ear, level with the lower edge of the earlobe.
The points listed in Figure 2 above are all located on the upper body. For conditions such as phlegm nodules where lumps appear on the upper body, treat according to the upper body acupoints. Dip fine rush pith into sesame oil, dry the oil on paper by rubbing, ignite it, and lightly moxa-burn at the fixed marked points in the diagram. Raise the flame immediately when it approaches the skin. Points one through five are considered to have fixed marking locations. If lumps arise on both sides of the neck, apply fire therapy to the five points on both hands. If lumps arise on only one side, use only the five points on the affected hand; this constitutes the case of fixed markings. For other cases without fixed markings, excluding vital Qi gates, burn around the lump. For large lumps, burn two or three spots on the top; for small lumps, burn one spot on the top. This describes the case without fixed burning points.
Figure 3
(Zi) Neiting (ST44) belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
(Chou) Xian Gu (ST43) belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
(Yin) Shangqiu (SP5) belongs to the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
(Mao) Shenmai (BL62) belongs to the Yang Qiao Mai (One of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels).
(Chen) Xiyan (Ex-LE5) belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
(Si) Xiyan (Ex-LE5) belongs to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
(Wu) Weizhong (BL40) belongs to the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian [Note: Text states Kidney Meridian, though traditionally Bladder Meridian]. (Also known as the knee popliteal crease point).
(Wei) Shuxi (Groin area) belongs to the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian.
[Supplementary Notes]
Neiting (ST44) is located on the dorsum of the foot, in the depression distal to the junction of the first and second metatarsal bones, between the second and third toes.
Xian Gu (ST43) is located on the dorsum of the foot, anterior to the Yangxi (ST42) point, one cun and five fen distal to Neiting (ST44).
Shangqiu (SP5) is located in the depression below the medial malleolus.
Shenmai (BL62) is located in the depression below the lateral malleolus.
Xiyan (Ex-LE5) is located in the depression on the left side of the patella.
Xiyan (Ex-LE5) is located in the depression on the right side of the patella.
Weizhong (BL40) is located in the center of the popliteal crease behind the knee.
Shuxi (referring to the groin/inguinal region) is located at the end of the large bone inside the hip, connecting upwards with the transverse bone.
The points listed in Figure 3 above are all located on the lower body. For phlegm nodules appearing below the waist, treat according to the lower body acupoints: treat the left side for left-sided afflictions, and the right side for right-sided afflictions. If both sides are afflicted, treat both left and right. The points Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei as shown in the figure are considered to have fixed markings. Use sesame oil-dipped fine rush pith for burning; these are fixed burning points. If there are no fixed markings, burn around the swollen nodule ring-wise. For large nodules, burn two or three spots on the top; for small nodules, burn one spot on the top. This is the key technique for cases without fixed burning points.
