Postpartum women have depleted Qi and Blood, with insufficient Yuan Qi in the Stomach. Occasional dietary injury prevents transformation and transportation, leading to a sensation of fullness and oppression (Pi Men).
If retained food stagnates, causing dry mouth and abdominal fullness/oppression, Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven) and Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus) is indicated. (Bu Yi)
If food is consumed immediately after anger, resulting in food stagnation and chest fullness, Sheng Hua Tang (Generate the New Decoction) added with digestive agents is indicated. (He Er Shi Si)
If digestion has occurred but obstruction persists, accompanied by pain and vomiting, it indicates damage to the Spleen and Stomach. Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) is indicated. (Bu Yi) If acid regurgitation and belching with rotten odor occur, add Pao Jiang (Prepared Ginger); if diarrhea occurs, add Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma). Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) should not be used. (Bu Liu)
Excessive use of digestive methods may反而 cause fullness and loss of appetite for grains; Chang Sheng Huo Ming Dan (Longevity and Life Preservation Pill) is indicated. (Bu Si Shi Wu)
Severe depletion of Qi and Blood, combined with weak Spleen and Stomach and failure of Middle Qi to circulate, allows failed blood (Bai Xue) to enter due to deficiency. If the Spleen is affected, it fails to transform and transport fine essences, leading to distension and fullness; if the Stomach is affected, it fails to receive and digest food and water, leading to vomiting and reflux. Di Sheng San (Di Sheng Powder) is indicated. (Gong Shi Er)
Labor injury to the Zang-Fu organs allows Cold Evil to enter the Intestines and Stomach; Jia Jian Sheng Hua Tang (Modified Generate the New Decoction) is indicated. (He San Shi Er) After seven days, Wen Wei Ding Xiang San (Warm the Stomach with Clove Powder) is taken. (He San Shi San)
Cough with rebellious Qi and dizziness are treated with Shi Lian San (Stone Lotus Powder). (He San Shi Si)
Dietary injury to the Spleen is treated with Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus). (Bu Yi)
Rebellious Qi in the Intestines and Stomach, caused by dryness and astringency leading to Qi rebellion, is treated with Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Huo Xiang (Pogostemonis Herba) and Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus). (Bu)
Deficiency-Cold of Stomach Qi is treated with Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Pao Jiang (Prepared Ginger) and Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix). (Bu Yi)
Cold Water insulting Earth (Spleen) is treated with Yi Huang San (Benefit the Yellow Powder). (San Er Shi Qi)
Liver Wood insulting Spleen Earth is treated with Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix). (Bu Yi)
Decline of Ming Men Fire (Gate of Life Fire) is treated with Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill). (Bu Si Shi Liu)
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, and cold extremities indicate Yang Qi deficiency; Fu Zi Li Zhong Tang (Aconite Regulate the Middle Decoction) is indicated. (Re Qi)
Thirst, internal vexation, and weakness, due to scanty Blood and excessive sweating failing to generate body fluids, are treated with Sheng Jin Yi Ye Tang (Generate Fluids and Enrich Liquids Decoction). (He San Shi Wu)
Vomiting roundworms indicates that Stomach Qi is about to exhaust. Use Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fei Zi (Torreya Seed), Bai Wei (Cynanchi Atrati Radix), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), and Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven).
Vomiting pus and blood, accompanied by recurrent macules, results from Summerheat received in summer that was not dispersed, manifesting only postpartum. The Fire Toxin is intense but cannot fully vent, hence these symptoms. It is necessary to temporarily use cooling formulas: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica), and Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix).
Severe vomiting and severe panting indicate Wind Evil affecting the Tai Yang (Greater Yang) channel. This is difficult to treat. Use heavy doses of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), assisted by Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), with small amounts of Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica) and Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus).
Vomiting with dysentery indicates Evil affecting the Shao Yin (Lesser Yin) channel. Due to decline of Kidney Fire, Fire is driven out by Cold, and Kidney Water ascends with the Cold causing vomiting. This is described as True Water deficiency and True Yang floating away. Urgently use Yang-tonifying herbs within Yin-nourishing formulas to guide Fire back to its source (Yin Huo Gui Yuan). This is the key method. Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) modified is indicated. (Bu Si Shi Liu)
Distension and fullness in both hypochondria with bloody stool indicate Wind Evil injuring the Liver. This is still salvageable because the bloody stool allows evil to exit; otherwise, evil lingering in the hypochondria would become a disease of the abdomen and heart. Use Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and San Qi Gen (Notoginseng Root).
