For traumatic injuries and fractures, there are also practitioners in rural villages capable of treating them. This is because the internal organs are fundamentally healthy, and it is clearly known which specific area is injured; therefore, the medicinal effects are invariably successful. The distinction lies only in the proficiency of manual techniques and the speed of treatment. In my youth, I was fond of martial arts and thoroughly understood its profound subtleties. Whenever these formulas were prepared, townspeople competed to buy them, claiming that taking them not only cured diseases but also enabled one to endure physical torture. Fearing that my reputation might reach the authorities, I refrained from mentioning them for over ten years. Now, having suffered severe eye injury, I cannot recover without these prescriptions. Reluctantly, I release these two formulas for transmission to future generations. Examining their properties and efficacy: Frankincense, Aucklandia root, Fennel fruit, and Zanthoxylum pericarpium regulate qi and resolve phlegm; Clematis root, Drynaria rhizome, Angelica pubescens root, Tetrandra root, and Dipsacus root dispel dampness and relieve wind; Panax notoginseng root, Dragon's blood, Corydalis rhizome, and Myrrh invigorate blood and clear heat; Gossypium seed, decayed rush fan, lotus leaf, and hair ash eliminate stasis and generate new tissue. Once stasis is eliminated, blood circulation improves; once qi is regulated, dampness is removed. Complementing these are Danggui and Cassia twig to harmonize Ying (nutritive) qi, Chenxiang and Shexiang to circulate Wei (defensive) qi, Hupo and the three sands (Zhusha, Lingsha, Pengsha) to calm the spirit and stabilize the soul, and Ziran Tong, Hugu, Baila, and various insect drugs to strengthen bones and muscles. Thus, pain ceases, swelling subsides, and daily life proceeds smoothly. They are named "Heishen" (Black Deity) and "Zinijin" (Purple Mud Gold) to praise their colors.
The poem states:
Purple mud gold consists of brocade toads,
In the sunny herb garden, one recognizes the splendor of nature.
Cassia, wood, frankincense, agarwood, and musk,
Qilin blood and amber redder than cinnabar,
Natural living tiger bones made of pyrite,
Generally, Ling Sha is fire-made thatch-like material.
Joyfully, wax insects resemble crabs and turtles,
At night, they climb onto window screens like moonstones.
Heishen formula: Lotus leaf, turban, jujube, broken hair,
Lingyou: rush shoes, cotton socks,
On the road, meet Dingpi, broken repair clothes,
Frankincense, myrrh, Aucklandia, fennel spray forth fragrance,
Fangji, Shanqi, Xuexie, Zijinpi are abundant,
Alone obtaining Shi Yi, fragrant and joyful killing.
