Hu Yan Ning Jing (Hawk-Eye Fixed Gaze) is characterized by protruding and fixed eyeballs, with the globe feeling distended, hard, and painfully intolerable. This condition arises from accumulated heat rushing upward to the head, where wind-heat pathogens congest and pour into the eyes. Treatment should first employ a gold needle to prick and bleed to drain toxicity, apply Mofeng Gao externally, and administer Xie Gan Tang internally (containing Jiegeng, Chongweizi, Chaihu, Fangfeng, Huangqin, Heishen, Mangxiao, Dahuang).
Daoie Quanmao (Inverted Eyelashes Curling Like Fists) presents with eyelashes turning inward to pierce the eyeball, loose eyelid skin but tight eyelid margins, accompanied by itching and pain, a sensation of foreign bodies making it difficult to open the eyes, and redness and ulceration of the eyelids. This is caused by the combination of Spleen Heat and Liver Wind pathogens congesting upward. Treatment should utilize Xixin Tang to clear internal pathogenic heat and disperse external wind pathogens externally (containing Zhimu, Chongweizi, Heishen, Dahuang, Xixin, Fangfeng, Jiegeng, Lingyangjiao).
Baorou Jiaoning (Flesh Adhering and Coagulating) manifests as swelling of the eyelids, initially small but gradually enlarging to rub against and obscure the pupil, with wet and ulcerated eyelids, and sticky discharge and tears. This results from wind-heat pathogens in the Stomach and Spleen attacking the eyes upward. Treatment should employ Tongpi Xiewei Tang to disperse wind and clear heat, simultaneously resolving both pathogens.
