On the Treatment of Scabies, Stopping Hand Sweating, and Treating Tinea Capitis (Lai Tou)
The Heavenly Master stated: "Bath therapy" refers to bathing with water that has been boiled. This applies to conditions such as sores and scabies. One must not bathe in public bathhouses but must do so within one's own home.
Use 4 liang of Sophora flavescens root (Kushen), 1 liang of raw Licorice root (Sheng Gancao), 1 liang of Honeysuckle flower (Jinyinhua), 0.5 jin of Xanthium herb (Cangercao), 1 liang of Schizonepeta spike (Jingjie), 1 liang of Saposhnikovia root (Fangfeng), and 3 liang of Astragalus root (Sheng Huangqi). Add water and boil to make a large pot of decoction. While hot, fumigate the body. Wrap the body tightly with two bamboo mats and cover with clothing to prevent the medicinal vapor from dissipating. Once the temperature cools slightly, proceed to bathe. Continue until the decoction becomes completely cold. Bathe twice a day. Re-boil the dregs and bathe as before. After three days, the sores and scabies will be completely healed.
Fumigation should not be used as a standard practice, as it may draw toxic pathogens into the zang-fu organs. "Fumigation" here refers to wrapping herbs in paper or placing them near a stove, allowing the patient to receive the herbal vapor inside a quilt. This method must strictly be avoided; bathing is far superior.
Master Zhang said: Excellent. For individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis of the hands, use 1 liang of Astragalus root (Huangqi), 1 liang of Kudzu root (Gegen), 3 qian of Schizonepeta spike (Jingjie), and 3 qian of Saposhnikovia root (Fangfeng). Decoct in water to make a basin of liquid. Fumigate with heat first, then wash with warmth. After three applications, sweating will cease. This is a miraculous formula. The aforementioned bath formula can also be used, though changing the herbs daily is preferable.
Another prescription for washing tinea capitis (Lai Tou): Use dozens of snails to wash the affected area. Complete healing occurs after two washes; this is also a miraculous formula. Three bowls of water are sufficient to decoct thirty snails.

On Erysipelas (Huodan) and Sand Rash (Shazhen)
The Heavenly Master stated: "Da therapy" (Reaching/Dispersing therapy) is indicated when fire pathogenic factors are constrained in the chest and cannot disperse, thus requiring a method to vent them outward. When fire heat is severe and accumulates over a long period, the heat intensity increases, often transforming into erysipelas or manifesting as sand rash. If not urgently dispersed, the fire will spread like a prairie fire, reducing everything to ashes instantly. The prescription uses 3 qian of Cimicifuga rhizome (Shengma), 8 liang of Scrophularia root (Yuanshen), 3 liang of Kudzu root (Gange), 3 liang of Artemisia annua (Qinghao), and 3 liang of Scutellaria root (Huangqin). Decoct in water and take orally. (Commentary: Da Yu Tang / Depressing Fire Decoction.) The uniqueness of this formula lies in the combined use of Qinghao and Yuanshen. The pathology of erysipelas and sand rash involves stomach fire and liver-constrained fire rising together and venting outward. Treating only the liver prevents the stomach fire from relaxing; treating only the stomach prevents the liver fire from draining. The brilliance here is the use of Qinghao, which pacifies stomach fire and simultaneously pacifies liver fire. However, its nature is mild and its flavor not sufficiently pungent/drastic. By assisting it with a heavy dose of Yuanshen, the scattered fire is extinguished. Although Qinghao pacifies stomach and liver fire, given that stomach fire typically outweighs liver fire in this context, the addition of Gange to pacify the stomach makes the formulation perfectly balanced, a subtlety beyond ordinary comprehension. This constitutes the method of Da therapy.
Master Zhang said: The Da therapy method represents an extraordinary ancient and modern prescription, rarely seen by my eyes. This formula is indeed unique and appropriate. I add another formula to supplement this profound approach: 3 qian of White Peony root (Baishao), 2 qian of Bupleurum root (Chaihu), 2 qian of Moutan bark (Danpi), 3 qian of Scrophularia root (Yuanshen), 3 qian of Ophiopogon tuber (Maidong), 3 qian of Schizonepeta spike (Jingjie), 3 qian of Rehmannia root (Shengdi), 3 qian of Stir-fried Gardenia fruit (Chao Zhizi), 1 qian of Saposhnikovia root (Fangfeng), and 2 qian of Nardostachys root (Tianhuafen). Decoct in water and take orally. (Commentary: Gu Ben San / Root-Firming Powder.) This formula specifically disperses fire within the Liver Wood system, venting liver fire so that fire in all meridians dissipates.

Sun Simiao transmitted a miraculous effective prescription for erysipelas. 1 liang of Luffa fruit (Sigua Zi), 1 qian of Bupleurum root (Chaihu), 1 liang of Scrophularia root (Yuanshen), 1 qian of Cimicifuga rhizome (Shengma), and 5 qian of Angelica sinensis root (Danggui). Decoct in water and take orally. One dose results in resolution. (Commentary: The Heavenly Master states: An extremely unique and wonderful formula.)
