When a person first feels a carbuncle/abscess developing on the back, whether formed or not, with redness, heat, swelling, and pain, first cover with wet paper. Observe immediately where the paper dries first; this indicates the core of the abscess. Moxa until pain is felt, then stop. Early detection and early moxibustion are best. If treated within one or two days, ten moxas result in ten cures; three to four days, six or seven out of ten; five to six days, three or four out of ten. After seven days, moxibustion is contraindicated. If multiple heads arise together, crush garlic into a paste, make a cake, place on the sore, gather moxa on top and burn. This also stabilizes the condition. If red swelling appears on the back initially with a single yellow grain like millet inside, slice a single clove of garlic, apply as described above. Next day, remove scab, pus erupts naturally, and it heals.
Bamboo Tube Suction Method: Treats various malignant sores. Use bitter bamboo, one to two cun long. The jointed end is best. Scrape off green skin until thin as paper. Size depends on the sore.
For any toxic sore at initial onset:
Bai Jili (Tribuli Fructus), Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Wu Tou Pi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Cortex), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) - five qian each.
Chop the four herbs. Use one pot of water. Decoct together with the bamboo tube. Continue until the medicinal liquid is absorbed/dried up. While the bamboo tube is hot, press it onto the sore with hand. Wait a moment... [Text cuts off]. If it becomes cold, repeat the previous method. Pus will be sucked into the tube, and the sore heals.
