Women whose emotional desires are unfulfilled, who dwell in deep contemplation and extreme depression, may suffer from Qi stagnation in the Heart and Spleen. This damages the source of the Chong and Ren vessels (Chong and Ren meridians), causing Kidney Qi to diminish day by day. Mild cases may present with early or delayed menstruation, while severe cases gradually develop into amenorrhea due to exhaustion of blood. The appropriate prescription is Mi Yuan Jian.

Beng Lou (Metrorrhagia and Metrostaxis) represents the most severe form of menstrual irregularity. Non-menstrual vaginal bleeding that drips continuously is called Lou Xia (Leaking Down). Sudden profuse bleeding, resembling a mountain collapse, is called Beng (Collapse). The condition often progresses from leaking to dripping, and from dripping to collapsing; it fundamentally belongs to disorders of blood. In the initial stage of Beng Lou, treatment should prioritize stopping bleeding to block the flow (treating the branch), primarily using Jiajian Siwu Tang or Shihui Wan. Once Beng Lou has just stopped, heat-clearing is indicated to clear the source (treating the root), primarily using Dihuang Tang or Qixiao Siwu Tang. After Beng Lou has ceased and internal heat has been eliminated, tonifying Qi and Blood to secure the foundation is necessary, primarily using Jiajian Buzhong Yiqi Tang. It must be understood that Beng Lou arises from deficiency of Middle Qi, which fails to contain the blood, compounded by accumulated heat within forcing blood to move recklessly, resulting in intermittent or sudden profuse bleeding, manifesting as Beng or Lou. In the initial stage, stopping bleeding to block the flow is essential, adhering to the principle of "treating the acute symptoms first." Once bleeding stops, if the source (heat) is not cleared, the torrential momentum cannot be restrained. Once heat is cleared, if the foundation is not secured, the scattered Yang Qi will lack support. Therefore, the treatment of Beng Lou must strictly follow this sequence: stop bleeding, clear heat, then tonify. Only then can errors be avoided. As the sages said, "In treating all lower jiao hemorrhagic syndromes, one must use formulas from the Four Gentlemen category to conclude treatment," the implication of which is profound.
