The *Mai Jue* (Pulse Classic) states: "Prolonged metrorrhagia leads to leukorrhea; prolonged metrorrhagia depletes the bone marrow." This refers to the initial stage of the disease. When metrorrhagia persists for a long time, blood deficiency occurs, leading to the subsequent loss of Yang Qi. Consequently, white and slippery discharge flows continuously without stopping, indicating that the Sea of Blood is about to be exhausted. It is appropriate to administer Bujing Guzhen Tang (Tonify Meridians and Consolidate True Decoction) and Yangyin Wan (Nourish Yin Pill).
Bujing Guzhen Tang (Tonify Meridians and Consolidate True Decoction)
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, ground into powder), Renshen (Ginseng Root) (2 qian each), Yuliren (Prunus japonica Seed, steamed with wine and mashed into paste), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, raw) (1 qian each);
Bai Kuihua (White Hibiscus Flower) (7 flowers).
Except for Huangqin, decoct the remaining herbs in two zhong of water until reduced to one and a half zhong. Then add Huangqin and decoct until reduced to one zhong. Take warm on an empty stomach, followed by a nutritious meal to prevent nausea.
Yangyin Wan (Nourish Yin Pill)
Guiban (Tortoise Shell, prepared with wine), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, stir-fried with wine), Zhiqiao (Bitter Orange Fruit, stir-fried with bran), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root).
Grind into powder and form pills with vinegar. Take twice daily with warm water.
In women, continuous metrorrhagia with bright red blood color initially results from overwork causing Spleen and Stomach deficiency. Symptoms include shortness of breath, rebellious Qi, spontaneous sweating, fever, diarrhea, limb weakness, and anorexia. It is appropriate to administer Huanglong Tang (Yellow Dragon Decoction).
Huanglong Tang (Yellow Dragon Decoction)
Huangqi (Astragalus Root, honey-fried) (1.5 qian), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Baishao (White Peony Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, honey-fried), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Lancea Rhizome, soaked in rice wash water), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel) (1 qian each);
Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root, fresh), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (3 qian each);
Shudihuang (Rehmannia Root, prepared) (5 qian);
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) (2 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Severe heart pain caused by metrorrhagia in women is termed Shaxue Xintong (Blood-Killing Heart Pain). This condition arises from Heart and Spleen blood deficiency, where the Heart lacks nourishment, resulting in pain. The same mechanism applies if severe heart pain follows excessive blood loss due to miscarriage. Treatment should exclusively employ sweet-warm methods to nourish Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi). It is appropriate to use Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Ingredients Great Tonifying Decoction), doubling the dosage of Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome). Administer continuously for dozens of doses until the pain ceases.
Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Ingredients Great Tonifying Decoction)
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, honey-fried) (3 qian each);
Shudihuang (Rehmannia Root, prepared), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Baishao (White Peony Root), Fuling (Poria), Huangqi (Astragalus Root, honey-fried) (1 qian each);
Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (0.5 qian each).
Add three slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and two dates (Zao). Decoct in water and take orally.
