Bai Zhuo (White Turbidity) is characterized by the frequent discharge of clear, cold, thick, and sticky fluid from the urethra, or a few drops lingering after urination. This condition arises from deficiency and damage in the Lower Yuan (Kidney and Mingmen), where essence fails to be secured and slips out; it belongs to the category of Chi Dai (Red Leukorrhea). It is appropriate to take Li Qing Yin (Clarifying Decoction).
Li Qing Yin (Clarifying Decoction)
Bixie Rhizoma (remove rhizome base) Yizhiren Semen Alpiniae Oxyphyllae (stir-fried with salt water) Wuyao Radial Saposhnikoviae (stir-fried) Shichangpu Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii (select nine-joint specimens, stir-fried) Fuling Poria (each 1 qian 5 fen)
Zhike Fructus Aurantii (bran-fried) Zhigancao Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (each 1 qian)
Decoct in water, add a small amount of salt, and take hot.
The Liver governs Blood, while the Lung governs Qi. Blood constitutes Ying (Nutritive) Qi, and Qi constitutes Wei (Defensive) Qi. When Ying and Wei are harmonious, conception occurs; if Blood is deficient and Qi is excessive, no fetus forms. If the Cun pulse is weak, Guan pulse is slippery, and Chi pulse is rapid with a slipping quality, the pulse flows smoothly and rapidly like a sparrow pecking. If all three positions (Cun, Guan, Chi) show regular sinking pulses without doubt, and pressure on the Chi pulse does not cease, pregnancy is confirmed. A slippery and rapid pulse that does not scatter indicates a three-month fetus; a rapid pulse that does not scatter indicates a five-month fetus, with the mother remaining safe. A string-tight, firm-strong, or slippery-smooth pulse indicates safe delivery; a deep, fine, and faint pulse indicates death.
When a woman's menstruation stops in her second or third month, one may suspect pregnancy or blood stasis. If accompanied by mental restlessness, alternating chills and fever, and uncertain spirit, Yan Tai San (Fetal Verification Powder) should be used for testing. About one shi (two hours) after taking the medicine, if movement is felt inside the abdomen, there is a fetus. If movement is felt below the umbilicus, it is Xue Jia (Blood Mass). If there is no movement, it is coagulated blood rather than a fetus. If one dose is ineffective, administer Hong Hua decoction to wash down the powder; this will surely be miraculous.
Yan Tai San (Fetal Verification Powder)
Chuanxiong Rhizoma (sparrow-brain variety, 1 liang) Danggui Radix Angelicae Sinensis (large specimen, 7 qian)
Grind the above herbs into powder without roasting over fire. Divide into two doses. Take with strong decoction of Aiye Folium Artemisiae Argyi.
A deep and solid pulse on the left hand indicates a male fetus; a floating and wiry pulse on the right hand indicates a female pregnancy. Enlargement of either Chi pulse can distinguish gender; a slippery and rapid pulse at Mingmen indicates pregnancy. A longitudinal pulse on the left hand suggests two boys; a transverse pulse on the right hand suggests two girls. An inverted pulse on the left hand suggests three boys; a smooth pulse on the right hand suggests three girls. When Cun, Guan, and Chi pulses correspond harmoniously, the signs of one boy and one girl are distinct. Yang pulses correspond to males, and Yin pulses correspond to females; keep this clear distinction in mind when palpating. (Note: The location of the fetus follows the principle of "male left, female right," where Qi and Blood gather. Thus, excess on the left indicates a male, and excess on the right indicates a female. I have observed that in diagnosing carbuncles and sores, if the lesion is upper, the Cun pulse is strong; if lower, the Chi pulse is strong; if on the left, the left pulse is strong; if on the right, the right pulse is strong. This illustrates the principle that left excess corresponds to males and right excess to females.)
