The infant's bilateral cheeks are swollen, hard, and nodular, sometimes occurring on one side only; this condition is termed "Zha Sai" (Mumps). Take one *Galla Chinensis* (Wubeizi), wrap it in wet paper, and roast it over fire until charred but retaining its medicinal properties. Grind into powder, mix with egg white, and apply externally to the affected area. Alternatively, take one leech (*Hirudo*) and one qian of Yini (Silver Rice) [Note: likely a local term or typo for a specific herb/mineral, kept as transliteration], pound them together until paste-like, and apply topically.
Infants have a yang-dominant constitution and are prone to heat sores. Boil five eggs, remove the whites, and retain the yolks. Mix with a clump of tangled hair roughly the size of an egg yolk. Place this mixture in an iron pot and simmer over charcoal fire. Initially, the heat is intense; after a short while, it begins to scorch, producing a liquid. Collect this liquid immediately into a bowl until extraction is complete. Apply this oil/liquid to the sores. Subsequently, dust the area with powdered *Sophora flavescens* (Kushen).
For infants suffering from alopecia barbae/capitis (tinea capitis) on the head, bake fresh pigeon droppings on a new tile until charred but retaining efficacy, then grind into powder. Mix with sesame oil and apply to the lesion. Three applications will result in cure. If crusts accumulate and protrude, first wash the area with a decoction of rice water, green onion white, and *Sichuan pepper*. After washing, apply the medication. This method is invariably effective.
"Gu Bei" (Pigeon Back/Kyphosis) occurs because the back was not protected at birth, allowing wind-cold to invade the spinal column, or due to sitting too early, leading to curvature where the back rises high like a turtle shell. This often becomes a chronic, difficult-to-treat condition. The appropriate formula is Songrui Dan.

"Gu Xiong" (Turtle Chest/Pectus Carinatum) results from lung heat causing distension and fullness, attacking the chest and diaphragm. It is often caused by the nursing mother consuming excessive pungent, hot foods, alcohol, or wheat products, or by frequently drinking hot milk during summer months. The appropriate formula is Baihe Dan.

When an infant is born with retracted external genitalia and incessant crying, this is due to cold contraction acquired in the womb; cold causes retraction. Use 5 qian of *Sulfur* (Liuhuang) and 5 qian of *Evodiae Fructus* (Wuzhuyu), grind into powder, and mix with garlic juice to apply to the umbilicus and abdomen. Additionally, burn *Cnidii Fructus* (Shechuangzi) to produce smoke and gently fumigate the area. The genitalia will return to their normal position.
