This syndrome suddenly occurs, with clear fluid flowing out as if from between the teeth, coming continuously, and the amount vomited reaches about one bowl. The causes of contraction vary. Cases are mostly due to cold, dampness, parasites, phlegm-fluid retention (Phlegm-Fluid), food stagnation (Food Retention), excessive drinking and eating, or sexual exhaustion; thus, treatments differ slightly. Various prescriptions should be used in reference to those for vomiting sour fluid (Vomiting Sour Fluid), and all patients should avoid rich and strong-flavored foods.
Main Prescription: Yizhi Ren (Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit), Huashi (Talcum) (each 3.6 g); Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, earth-fried), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, earth-fried), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, processed), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white removed), Fuling (Poria) (each 3 g); Wuyu (Evodiae Fructus) (1.5 g); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.6 g). Add Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct, and take hot.
For deficiency-cold, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, roasted); for phlegm, add Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma); for retained food, add Shenqu (Massae Fermentatae Medicinalis) and Sharen (Amomi Fructus); for parasites, add Wumei (Mume Fructus).
The Classic states: "The Stomach is the sea of water and grain, accepting everything." If one indulges in eating fermented grains, fishy smells, raw and cold items, and richly cooked strong flavors, injury occurring in the morning leads to damage by evening. Food stagnation and phlegm-fluid retention remain stagnant in the middle jiao (Middle Burner), combined with heat generated from emotional depression (Seven Emotions). Thus, symptoms such as zao re (Hunger-like Discomfort), belching, swallowing sour fluid, and fullness (Pi Man) occur. If left untreated for a long time, it may gradually develop into fan wei (Regurgitation) or ye ge (Dysphagia).
The disease of zao re (Hunger-like Discomfort) is characterized by a sudden sensation of fire in the abdomen, originating within the chest and epigastrium. It feels empty as if nothing is there, neither truly painful nor truly hungry, accompanied by mental restlessness (Ao Nu) and a burning sensation. Eating provides temporary relief. This is caused by phlegm stirring up fire, sometimes accompanied by belching and nausea. If there is epigastric pain, the cun pulse at both wrists is wiry and slippery, indicating retained fluid in the chest; the guan pulse is wiry and tense, suggesting impending regurgitation; a deep and choppy pulse indicates stagnation. Ultimately, it boils down to the two characters: phlegm and fire.
Main Prescription: Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried with ginger juice), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-fried with ginger juice), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, wine-fried), Fuling (Poria) (all in equal parts).
Add five slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) to the above, decoct with water, and take orally.
If phlegm is excessive, add Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); if stagnation, add Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Fuxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, specifically from Fu County); if heat is severe, add Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), and Ruangao shi (Gypsum Fibrosum); for contrary treatment (Cong Zhi), add Hong Doukou (Myristicae Semen).
Sansheng Wan (Three Sages Pill): Treats zao re (Hunger-like Discomfort).
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (120 g), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) (30 g), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, fried) (15 g).
Grind into powder, make pills using Shenqu (Massae Fermentatae Medicinalis) paste, size of mung beans. Take 50 pills each time with ginger soup.
Yijun Tang (Benefit Lord Decoction): Treats zao re (Hunger-like Discomfort) caused by insufficient Heart blood.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (each 6 g); Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1.5 g); Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (each 2.4 g); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.9 g); Wumei (Mume Fructus) (one piece).
Add 100 grains of fried rice to the above, decoct with water until ready. Mix in Chensha (Cinnabar, water-triturated) (1.5 g), and take before sleep.
Hezhong Tang (Harmonize Middle Decoction): Treats zao re (Hunger-like Discomfort) caused by deficient fire.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria) (each 3 g); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1.5 g); Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried with ginger juice) (4.5 g).
Add two red dates and 100 grains of Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Japonica Group), decoct with water, and take orally.
