The syndrome of amenorrhea in women initially arises from sorrow and anger, leading to qi stagnation and discomfort, which is suppressed and transforms into fire. This results in symptoms such as five-palm heat (heat sensation in the palms, soles, and chest), dry throat, thirst, constipation, and scanty dark urine. Menstruation arriving early, occurring twice a month, or abnormal excessive bleeding are all caused by fire forcing blood to move recklessly. Since blood has been lost excessively, and further depleted by internal heat, menstruation becomes infrequent, occurring only once every two or three months; this is the gradual onset of amenorrhea. Subsequently, symptoms such as alternating chills and fever, irritability, night sweats, cough, reduced appetite, feeling of hunger without desire to eat, difficulty digesting after eating, and chest and diaphragm fullness and oppression appear. It may even progress to abdominal masses that move or cause pain, resembling pregnancy but not being so; this is blood-deficiency amenorrhea, commonly known as "dry blood consumption" (Gan Xue Lao). At this stage, even miraculous medicines cannot cure it. One must vigorously nourish yin and blood, calm the mind, and strengthen the spleen, preventing imbalance of yin and yang and separation of qi and blood. Only then is there one chance in ten of survival. To use herbs such as Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi), Sparganii Rhizoma (Sanleng), Curcumae Rhizoma (Pengru), Amomi Fructus (Sharen), Cardamomi Fructus (Doukou), Raphi Semen (Luobozǐ), Linderae Radix (Wuyao), Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanyhusu), Persicae Semen (Taoren), and Carthami Flos (Honghua) to forcibly promote blood circulation would be to hasten death. The pulse will necessarily be fine, rapid, urgent, and choppy.
Main Formula: Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 3 qian), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 2 qian), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 2 qian), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 1 qian), Baifuling (Poria, 1 qian), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis, 1 qian), Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan, 1 qian), Digupi (Cortex Lycii, 1 qian), Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 1 qian), Guya (Fructus Hordei Germinatus, 1 qian), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 5 fen). Add seven lotus seeds, one slice of ginger, and one jujube to the above ingredients, decoct with water, and take morning and evening.

Grind the above into powder, mix with wine paste to make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take seven pills per dose, washed down with wine. For blood-deficiency amenorrhea, take with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction). Alternatively, grind Taoren alone into pills and take.
