Song of Ren Mai Acupoints
There are twenty-four acupoints on the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) along the midline of the body. Huiyin (Perineum, CV1) is hidden between the two yin orifices (the anus and the urethra/vagina). Anterior to Qugu (CV2) lies Zhongji (CV3); Guan Yuan (CV4), Shi Men (CV5), and Qi Hai (CV6) follow in sequence. Yin Jiao (CV7), Shen Que (CV8, text error "Shen Guan"), and Shui Fen (CV9) are located there; Xia Wan (CV10), Jian Li (CV11), and Zhong Wan (CV12) are anteriorly above. Shang Wan (CV13) and Ju Que (CV14) connect to Jiu Wei (CV15); Zhong Ting (CV16), Dan Zhong (CV17), and Yu Tang (CV18) are within. Zi Gong (CV19) and Hua Gai (CV20) move like the Xuan Ji star; Tian Tu (CV21), Lian Quan (CV23), and Cheng Jiang (CV24) mark the end.
Huiyin (CV1) [also known as Ping Yi] Located anterior to the anus and posterior to the urethra/vagina, between the two yin orifices. It is a collateral branch of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), intersecting with the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) and Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel). Another view holds that the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), Du Mai (Governing Vessel), and Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) all originate here: the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) travels along the abdomen from here, the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) along the back, and the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) along the Shaoyin (Kidney/Liver) divisions. Needle depth: 2 cun; retain for three breaths (hu); moxibustion: 3 cones. One method prohibits needling; only in cases of sudden death, needle 1 cun and apply tonification. For drowning victims, carry them upside down out of water, needle and apply tonification; if urine and feces are expelled, life is restored. Needling is contraindicated in other cases.
Indications: Sweat in the genital region, various diseases of the vagina/yin, pain radiating between the anterior and posterior orifices, inability to urinate or defecate, chronic anal diseases leading to fistula/hemorrhoids, cold qi rushing to the heart in men, pain in the vulva in women, amenorrhea.
A transmitted method treats postpartum coma and loss of consciousness.
Qugu (CV2) Located above the pubic bone, 1 cun below Zhongji (CV3), in the depression of the pubic hair line where the artery beats.
