Gui Cheng (Ghost City): Located at the tips of the ten fingers.
*Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) records: For diseases caused by evil pathogens, manifesting as loud shouting, cursing, mania, and running wildly, treat one fen away from the nail bed at the tips of the ten fingers; this acupoint is named Gui Cheng. It can also treat sudden, unbearable cramping pain in the fingers; apply moxibustion with seven moxa cones at the finger tips.
Gui Chuang (Ghost Bed): *Qianjin Fang* records: For the seventh needle insertion, located five fen below the earlobe, use a fire needle to puncture three times; this is named Gui Chuang. It treats various types of mania and epilepsy caused by evil pathogens.
Gui Zang (Ghost Repository): *Qianjin Fang* records: For the eleventh needle insertion, located in the perineal cleft; for women, at the Yumen (vaginal opening); apply moxibustion with three moxa cones; this is named Gui Zang.
Gui Feng (Ghost Seal): *Qianjin Fang* records: For the thirteenth needle insertion, located on the tongue, directly at the midline suture on the underside of the tongue; pierce through to the dorsal surface of the tongue. Secure the needle head with a board placed horizontally across the mouth corners to prevent tongue movement; this is named Gui Feng.
Instructions on the Thirteen Ghost Acupoints from *Qianjin Fang*:
For mania and madness caused by hundred evils, thirteen acupoints must be identified. When needling, begin with Gui Gong, then needle Gui Xin; there is no case that will not respond. Seek them one by one from the beginning. For men, start from the left side; for women, start from the right side.
1. The first needle is at Renzhong (Governor Vessel 26), named Gui Ting (Ghost Stop). Insert from the left, withdraw from the right.
2. The second needle is under the thumbnail of the thumb, named Gui Xin (Ghost Belief), insert three fen deep.
3. The third needle is under the thumbnail of the big toe, named Gui Lei (Ghost Rampart), insert two fen deep.
4. The fourth needle is at Daling (Pericardium 7) on the palm, eight cun five fen from the wrist crease, named Gui Xin (Ghost Heart).
5. The fifth needle is at Shenmai (Bladder 62), named Gui Lu (Ghost Road), use a fire needle for three punctures of seven moxa cones each.
6. The sixth needle seeks above Dazhui (Governor Vessel 14), one cun into the hairline, named Gui Zhen (Ghost Pillow).
7. The seventh needle is five fen below the earlobe, named Gui Chuang (Ghost Bed); the needle should be warm.
8. The eighth needle is at Chengjiang (Conception Vessel 24), named Gui Shi (Ghost Market); remember to insert from the left and withdraw from the right.
9. The ninth needle is at Jianshi (Pericardium 5), named Gui Lu (Ghost Road).
10. The tenth needle is at Shangxing (Governor Vessel 23), named Gui Tang (Ghost Hall).
11. The eleventh needle involves three moxa cones in the perineal cleft; for women, at the Yumen, named Gui Zang (Ghost Repository).
12. The twelfth needle is at Quchi (Large Intestine 11), named Gui Chen (Ghost Minister); use a fire needle for seven moxa cones.
13. The thirteenth needle is at the midline of the tongue, named Gui Feng (Ghost Seal).
Needle symmetrically on both hands and feet; if encountering an isolated point, needle only on one side. This is the true secret of the ancient masters; it drives away rampant evil ghosts without a trace.
Bian Que said: For diseases caused by hundred evils, there are thirteen acupoints for needling. The method of needling starts from Gui Gong, then needles Gui Xin, proceeds to Gui Lei, and then to Gui Xin. It is not necessary to needle all of them; stopping after five or six points is sufficient to see results... For men, start needling from the left; for women, start from the right. If certain locations are not specified, needle all over, following the rhyme instructions.
[Cui's Four Flowers Six Acupoints]
This method treats all conditions of five labors and seven injuries, deficiency and damage of Qi and Blood, bone-steaming tidal fever, cough with phlegm and wheezing, heat in the five centers, fatigue of the four limbs, emaciation, and weakness.
First time: Select two acupoints. Have the patient stand upright. Take a thin string about three or four chi long, coat it with wax so it does not stretch or shrink. Align the end of the string with the tip of the big toe of the male's left foot or female's right foot. Let it follow the sole of the foot to the heel, pressing down firmly. Then pull the string backward, along the heel and calf紧贴 the flesh upwards, until it reaches the transverse crease in the popliteal fossa (knee bend), and cut it. Next, have the patient sit upright. Part the hair at the vertex to expose the midline suture. Take the measured waxed string, align one end with the tip of the nose, and lead it upwards along the head suture, neck, and back, hanging down紧贴 the flesh until the end of the string. Mark this point with ink. (This is not a moxibustion point.) Additionally, take a small string. Have the patient close their mouth, fold the string in half, press it against the root of the nasal bridge, and spread it left and right to the corners of the mouth, adding the width of a "human" character shape, then cut. Straighten this string, find its midpoint, and place it horizontally over the ink mark on the spine recorded earlier. Mark the ends of the string with ink. These are the two acupoints to be moxibusted the first time, named Huanmen (Patient Gate).
If the woman has small feet and this method is difficult to standardize, measure from the Jianjing (Gallbladder 21) acupoint on the right arm downwards to the tip of the middle finger, marking with ink, to substitute for measuring the foot, which is more appropriate.
Second time: Select two acupoints. Have the patient sit upright, slightly retracting the arms. Take a waxed string, wrap it around the back of the neck forward, hanging double in front, aligning with the tip of Jiutui (Conception Vessel 15). Cut both ends together. Turn the string back, placing the folded center exactly on the laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple). Where the string ends hang down between the vertebrae, mark with ink. (This is not a moxibustion point.) Take another small string, have the patient close their mouth, measure horizontally across the two corners of the mouth, cut, and place it on the ink mark on the spine, measuring horizontally as before. Mark the ends. These are the two acupoints to be moxibusted the second time, i.e., the left and right two points of the Four Flowers.
Moxibustion on the previous four points simultaneously: Start with seven moxa cones, or fourteen, twenty-one, up to one hundred moxa cones is excellent. Wait until the moxibustion sores are about to heal or when the fire sores erupt, then moxibust the next two points according to the following method.
Next time: Select two points. Use the short string used to measure the mouth in the second step. Place it vertically on the ink mark between the vertebrae from the second step, ensuring it is balanced up and down. Mark the end of the string with ink. These are the moxibustion points, i.e., the upper and lower two points of the Four Flowers.
In total, there are six points. Choose a Li day (Fire day) for moxibustion. Within one hundred days after moxibustion, avoid sexual activity and excessive thinking. Eat according to the seasons, maintain balance in cold and heat, and provide proper nursing care. If the sores heal but the condition persists, repeat the moxibustion as before; there will be no failure. Hence it is said to accumulate moxibustion up to one hundred cones. However, do not moxibust too heavily on the two points on the spinal column; only three to five cones per session are allowed, otherwise, it may cause fatigue. If moxibusting these six points, it is also advisable to moxibust Zusanli (Stomach 36) to drain fire, which is optimal.
My commentary: Regarding the aforementioned method, the four points on the sides of the spine are moxibusted. The upper two points are near the fifth thoracic vertebra, corresponding to Xinxu (Bladder 15); the lower two points are near the ninth thoracic vertebra, corresponding to Ganshu (Bladder 18). Cui Zhiti did not specify the acupoint names but established the measurement method, likely to make it easier for people to understand. However, consulting the acupoint methods of the back, the two lines of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian should be two cun lateral to the midline of the spine to align with the main meridians and achieve efficacy. Users should examine this carefully.
[Riding the Bamboo Horse Moxibustion Method]
Indications: All types of carbuncles, ulcers, malignant sores, back abscesses, and breast abscesses in women can be treated.
Measurement method: Use a thin bamboo strip. Measure from the transverse crease at the Ruize (Lung 5) acupoint of the male's left wrist or female's right wrist to the tip of the middle finger, cutting at the fleshy end as the standard. Then take a bamboo pole. Have the patient remove their upper garment and ride straddling the pole. Two people lift the pole from the front and back so that the patient's feet do not touch the ground. Two people support the patient to prevent bending or shaking. Take the previously measured bamboo strip, starting from below the coccyx where the patient sits on the pole, place it against the pole, and go straight up along the spine. Mark the end of the strip with ink. This marks the midpoint, not a moxibustion point. Use another thin bamboo strip to measure the middle finger. Using the proportional inch method (Tongshen Cun), measure two cun. Place this horizontally on the ink mark on the midline of the spine, one cun to the left and one cun to the right (another version says two cun). These are the acupoints. Apply moxibustion with five to seven moxa cones. One theory states: If the carbuncle is on the left, moxibust the right; if on the right, moxibust the left; if severe, moxibust both. These two points are where the Heart Meridian passes. All carbuncles and ulcers are toxins stagnating due to Heart Fire. Moxibustion here promotes the flow of Heart Fire and disperses the toxin. It has the merit of bringing the dead back to life and has been repeatedly tested and verified.
