Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder with sudden vomiting and diarrhea) refers to a state of sudden, violent abdominal turmoil and chaos. Caused by external pathogenic factors or internal dietary injury, it leads to the deviation and separation of Yin and Yang Qi, resulting in upper vomiting and lower diarrhea. If the pathology leans toward Yang, heat syndromes predominate; if it leans toward Yin, cold syndromes predominate. The onset is abrupt, and the condition is critical, fragile as a candle flame in the wind. Those who experience both vomiting and diarrhea are diagnosed with Shi Huoluan (Damp Cholera), indicating that the ingested harmful substances are completely expelled. If one cannot vomit upward nor defecate downward, and the harmful substances remain trapped inside, death occurs very rapidly. In such cases, salt water must be used to induce vomiting; once the toxins are expelled, the patient will feel relieved. It is crucial not to provide grain food; ingestion leads to immediate death. Only after the patient feels extreme hunger and vomiting/diarrhea have ceased for two to three hours can thin rice gruel be administered.
