徐仲光治一痘起胀，色焦枯，谵语，此火亢极也，以退火回生丹、无比散，治之而愈。
一痘密浆，其色白，昏睡谵语，此血虚也，保元汤加归、地、芎、冬、茯苓、枣仁。
一痘后午余发睡，面赤谵语，此火从虚发也，保元汤加归、芍、川连。
万密斋治胡三溪子痘，时常以手自掩其面，身下缩，频呼曰∶我怕，若有所见者。曰∶逆痘也。经曰∶肾
败者失志，目中见鬼，死不治。钱氏曰∶肾病则下窜，此痘发于肾，不可为也。果然。
一妇年二十余，发热五日，痘不出，常起摸床壁，昏不知人，口喃喃不休。曰∶死症也。果然。
周璜子年十三，染痘发热，五日痘不出，发狂谵语，已进保元汤三剂矣。曰∶误矣，犯实实之戒也。凡痘
发热之初，惊者平之，渴者润之，吐利者和之，便秘者利之，热盛者解之，如无他症，不须服药。今此子元气
素浓，饮食夙强，乃以保元汤助火为邪，毒瓦斯郁遏，至于狂妄，热已剧矣。宜急下之，与三黄汤，得利，而狂
止痘出，至十七日靥。（治痘之法，尽此数语。）
汪少溪婢染痘，发热颠狂。曰∶热极矣，当速解之。乃作三黄汤与服，得利，热减神清，痘出而安。
徐氏子年十七出痘，至脓将靥，忽发狂，妄语起舞，或殴人骂人，皆平日仇恨者，一身之疮尽迸破，祈禳
不效。乃用安神丸百粒，作二次服，良久始省。问其所为，殊梦梦也。

又治一名痘后午后余时出现嗜睡，面色发红并伴有胡言乱语的患者，这是虚火内生所致，使用保元汤加入当归、白芍、黄连进行治疗。
万密斋治疗胡三溪之子患痘疹，患者时常用手遮挡面部，身体向下蜷缩，频繁呼喊说：“我怕”，好像看到了什么不干净的东西一样。万密斋说：“这是逆痘（凶险的痘疹）。”《内经》说：“肾气败坏则意志丧失，眼中见鬼，属于死证，无法治愈。”钱乙（钱氏）说：“肾病则身体下窜”，此痘疹发于肾经，无法救治。结果果然如此。
又治一名二十多岁的妇女，发热五日，痘疹不出，经常起身摸索床壁，神志昏迷不知人事，口中喃喃自语不停。万密斋说：“这是死症。”结果果然死亡。
周璜的儿子十三岁，感染痘疹发热，五天后痘疹仍未发出，出现发狂、胡言乱语的症状，此前已经服用了三剂保元汤。万密斋说：“误诊了，犯了‘实实’（使实证更实）的禁忌。凡是痘疹发热初期，受惊的要使其平静，口渴的要滋润，呕吐腹泻的要调和，便秘的要通便，热势盛的要解表清热，如果没有其他症状，不需要服药。如今这个孩子元气本来浓厚，饮食素来强壮，却用保元汤助长火邪成为病邪，导致毒瓦斯郁结遏制，以至于狂妄，热势已经非常剧烈。应当紧急攻下，给予三黄汤，大便通利后，狂躁停止，痘疹发出，到第十七天结痂。（治疗痘疹的方法，尽在这几句话中。）”
汪少溪的婢女感染痘疹，发热且精神颠狂。万密斋说：“热势极盛，应当迅速清热解表。”于是配制三黄汤让她服用，大便通利后，热势减退，神志清醒，痘疹发出而安然无恙。
徐氏的儿子十七岁出痘，到了脓疱即将结痂的阶段，突然发狂，胡言乱语并起舞，或者殴打辱骂人，都是他平日仇恨的人，全身痘疮全部迸破，祈祷驱邪无效。于是使用安神丸一百粒，分两次服用，过了很久才苏醒。询问他之前的行为，他自己也迷迷糊糊，完全不记得。
Xu Zhongguang treated a patient in the stage of痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) swelling and rising, with darkened and withered lesions, accompanied by delirium. This indicated extreme hyperactivity of fire (excess heat). He treated him with Tuohuo Huisheng Dan (Fire-Retreating Life-Recovery Pill) and Wubi San (Peerless Powder), resulting in recovery.
He treated another patient with dense痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) filled with pus, white in color, suffering from lethargy and delirium. This was due to blood deficiency. He used Baoyuan Tang (Protective Qi Decoction) added with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Fuling (Poria), and Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen).
He treated another patient who experienced drowsiness after noon following痘疹 (smallpox/variolae), with a red face and delirium. This indicated fire arising from deficiency. He used Baoyuan Tang (Protective Qi Decoction) added with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
Wan Mizhai treated the son of Hu Sanxi for痘疹 (smallpox/variolae). The patient frequently covered his face with his hands, curled his body downward, and repeatedly cried out, "I am afraid," as if seeing spirits. Wan said, "This is Ni Dou (reverse smallpox)." The Classics state: "When kidney qi fails, will is lost, and one sees ghosts in the eyes; this is a fatal condition that cannot be cured." Qian Yi (Qianshi) stated: "Kidney disease causes the body to crouch downward." Since this痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) originated from the kidney, it was incurable. It proved true.
He treated a woman in her twenties who had been feverish for five days without痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) erupting. She constantly rose to feel along the bed walls, was unconscious, and muttered incessantly. Wan said, "This is a fatal syndrome." It proved true.
Zhou Huang's son, aged thirteen, contracted痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) with fever. After five days, no痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) had erupted. He became manic and delirious, having already taken three doses of Baoyuan Tang (Protective Qi Decoction). Wan said, "This was a mistake; it violated the prohibition against 'reinforcing excess' (Shi Shi). In the initial stage of痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) fever, if there is fright, calm it; if thirsty, moisten it; if vomiting or diarrhea, harmonize it; if constipated, purge it; if heat is excessive, resolve it. If there are no other symptoms, medication is unnecessary. Now, this child has naturally robust yuan qi (original qi) and strong dietary habits, yet Baoyuan Tang (Protective Qi Decoction) was used to aid fire and become pathogenic, causing toxic vapors to stagnate and suppress, leading to mania. The heat is now severe. Urgent purgation is required. Administer Sanhuang Tang (Three-Yellow Decoction). Upon defecation, the mania ceased,痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) erupted, and by the seventeenth day, scabs formed. (The methods for treating痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) are contained entirely within these few sentences.)"
Wang Shaoxi's maid contracted痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) with fever and madness. Wan said, "The heat is extreme; it must be resolved quickly." He prepared Sanhuang Tang (Three-Yellow Decoction) for her to take. Upon defecation, the heat decreased, consciousness cleared,痘疹 (smallpox/variolae) erupted, and she recovered safely.
Xu's son, aged seventeen, developed痘疹 (smallpox/variolae). When the pustules were about to crust over, he suddenly became manic, spoke nonsense, danced, beat people, and cursed those he harbored grudges against in daily life. All lesions on his body burst open. Prayers and exorcisms were ineffective. Therefore, Anshen Wan (Calming the Spirit Pill) 100 pills were administered in two doses. After a long time, he regained consciousness. When asked about his behavior, he was confused and had no memory of it.
