Du Kehong, a Juren (degree holder), fell from a horse. After taking blood-invigorating and stasis-resolving medicines, he instead developed panting, which worsened daily. This was caused by Blood deficiency, not by blood stasis. Therefore, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) was administered with added Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix). His panting stopped immediately. He was subsequently cured using Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with added Wuweizi and Maidong. If this condition were indeed panting caused by blood stasis steaming and harassing the Lung, one should employ methods to invigorate and move blood, and avoid purgatives. If the patient presents with a dark complexion, chest distension, or epigastric pain inducing panting, one should use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang and Sumu (Sappan Lignum) 2 liang as a single dose, decocted in water and taken urgently; if treatment is delayed, it will be untreatable. This condition is common among postpartum women.
Yang Jinshi (degree holder) injured his finger. The affected area was painful and accompanied by fever. After taking cold-natured medicines, his appetite decreased abruptly, and the lesion failed to suppurate. By employing medicines to support the interior and nourish the blood, his appetite returned, and the lesion suppurated. Later, due to overexertion, he experienced fever every afternoon (Bushi time). This was internal heat due to Yin deficiency. It subsided after treatment with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Ruan Chaihu (Soft Bupleuri Radix), and Digupi (Lycii Cortex). The wound healed after further administration of medicines to nourish Blood and tonify Qi.
A man fell from a horse and had abdominal blood stasis. After taking medicines intended to purge the stasis, he developed fever, night sweats, and spontaneous sweating, with a floating and choppy pulse. This was considered to be caused by excessive damage to Qi and Blood from heavy purgative agents. When Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Substance Great Tonifying Decoction) was administered, the condition worsened. At times, he exhibited delirious speech, which was attributed to the medicinal force failing to reach the pathological site. By adding Pao Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) 5 fen to the previous prescription, he fell asleep immediately upon ingestion. Upon waking, he felt significantly relieved, and he recovered after two more doses.

The nephew of Grand Secretary Liang suffered a leg injury from a fall. He applied external poultices containing Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and took internal blood-breaking formulas, leading to internal ulceration. Approximately three bowls of foul pus were drained via needle puncture. All signs of deficiency were present. After administering strong tonifying medicines for over two months, he could barely walk. Due to mental exertion, he presented with flaccid hands, deviated eyes, and profuse sweating like water. Some suggested using wind-dispelling agents. I stated: "This is due to insufficient Qi and Blood." Urgently, hot moxa (prepared by stir-frying mugwort leaves) was frequently applied to the navel (a method previously used by Luo Qianfu) and the Qihai (CV-6) acupoint. Additionally, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 4 liang and Pao Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) 5 qian were decocted and administered orally. After a long while, his arms moved slightly. Another dose was administered, after which his eyes opened, and he could speak. However, his Qi was unable to connect continuously. Therefore, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [Note: Text says 'Shu', likely referring to Baizhu or Zhushen, but context implies tonifying herbs, here translated as Baizhu based on standard pairing, though original text has a gap/typo ' 、 '. Assuming standard tonifying combo] totaling 1 jin, along with Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 5 qian, were decocted in water and slowly ingested. His Yuan Qi (Original Qi) gradually recovered, and his diet improved. The Fuzi was then removed, and continued administration led to the healing of the wound.
A seventeen-year-old girl sprained her right arm, resulting in slight swelling and pain. She experienced fever during Yinshen hours (3-7 AM and PM). It was diagnosed as Blood deficiency and flourishing fire in the Gallbladder Meridian. Her menstruation indeed arrived early. Initially, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) combined with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) was given for four doses, resolving the fever. Then, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) was modified with Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), and Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) at 5 fen each, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), and Zhi Gancao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) at 2 fen each. After more than twenty doses, the swelling subsided. Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) were then discontinued. After another fifty-plus doses, her menstruation became regular, and her Yuan Qi (Original Qi) became robust.
Wang Qingzhi, a Confucian scholar, suffered lower back pain from a fall. Treatment with pain-relieving agents was ineffective. His Qi and Blood declined daily, and his face and ears turned dark/black. I stated: "The waist is the mansion of the Kidney. Although it is a sprain injury, it is actually caused by Kidney Meridian deficiency." Therefore, Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Buguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Rongrong (Cynomorii Herba), and Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) were taken on an empty stomach. Additionally, Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), and Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) at 2 qian each were taken well after meals. He recovered within a month.
A three-year-old child suffered lower back pain from a sprain. After taking Qi-moving medicines for half a year without improvement, it was determined that this was due to congenital insufficiency of Kidney Qi, constituting an untreatable condition. The child eventually died.
