Hare feces (49 pieces) Sand (pieces similar in size to hare feces, 49 pieces)
Use raw honey to make pills. Take half a liang of raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Licorice Root), crush it, soak it overnight, and extract the juice. Administer seven pills at dawn (Wugeng). Do not let the patient know. After administering the medicine for consumption diseases (Lao disease), observe frequently. If parasites are found, kill them immediately, fry them until charred using mulberry fire oil, and discard into foul water. If there is no discharge after three days, take another dose. It must be taken after the third day of the lunar month, before the full moon. Avoid contact with people wearing mourning clothes or dark-colored clothes, women, cats, dogs, etc. Afterwards, administer Qi-tonifying medicines for consumption to achieve recovery. Wei Min Sun Yuangui kept this prescription and used it to save many lives. Wan Rong from Jiangyin suffered from consumption, his four limbs felt like burning, and he was on the verge of death. One night, he dreamed that a deity embraced a moon, as large as a plate, shining so brightly that it could not be looked at directly, causing coldness to penetrate his heart and bones. He woke up palpitating. Soon, someone knocked on the gate; it was an envoy from Wei Min bringing him the medicine. After taking it, he recovered. When asked for the name, it was Mingyue Dan (Bright Moon Pill). He then realized the previous dream; generally, this medicine is most effective for treating Heat Consumption (Re Lao). It is also said to treat restlessness and bone-steaming fever caused by Cold Damage (Shanghan).
To treat chronic cough, cold-phlegm cough, and long-standing consumption cough where other medicines have been ineffective.
Realgar (transparent without stone impurities, 1 liang) Orpiment (without stone impurities, 0.5 liang; these two ingredients are ground together into an extremely fine powder) Beeswax (2 liang)
First, melt the wax into liquid, add the medicinal powder, stir evenly, and wait for it to solidify. Scrape it off. Use three to five layers of paper, each sheet five cun wide and one chi long. Melt the wax mixed with medicine, apply it thickly to one side of the paper, and roll it into a tube using a bamboo arrow, ensuring the medicine is inside. Allow it to dry and adhere, then remove the bamboo arrow. Before going to bed, place charcoal fire in a warming pan, ignite one end of the tube to produce smoke. Inhale deeply through the other end of the tube, drawing in the smoke, and swallow with aged rice decoction. Each inhalation session consists of three breaths. During severe coughing, when cold saliva is expectorated, cover oneself with clothes and lie down; after a while, sweating will occur. For those who have been ill for three to five years, two or three sessions will lead to recovery. For those ill for ten years or more, with severe coughing, incessant cough sounds, and cold phlegm in the chest: for patients who have tried cold, warm, tonifying, and purging treatments without effect, perform this treatment once daily. Recovery will likely occur within five to seven days. My late father, a Minister of Revenue (Hubu Langzhong), suffered from phlegm-cough, feeling as if his chest were filled with ice and snow. Three years later, my uncle also contracted cough. Six years later, he became emaciated and nearly exhausted due to consumption; all methods failed to cure him. Using this method two or three times led to complete recovery.
