[Platycladi Cacumen (Cacamen Platycladi)]
Taste: Pungent, bitter. Nature: Slightly cold. Toxicity: Non-toxic. It is born in autumn, fully receiving the Qi of Metal. It can ascend and descend; it is Yin. Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) and Oyster Shell (Muli) are adverse to Chrysanthemum Flower (Juhua). It is suitable for use with wine.
【Indications】Mainly treats hematemesis (vomiting blood), epistaxis (nosebleed), metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), intestinal wind, hematuria (blood in urine), dysenteric blood, and all types of blood disorders. Removes cold-dampness bi-syndrome (painful obstruction due to cold and dampness). Promotes tissue regeneration. Harvest according to directions and dry in shade.
【Meridian Tropism】Enters the Liver and Kidney meridians. It is a substance that benefits Yin and cools blood. (A key herb for tonifying Yin; nourishes Yin and moistens the Lungs while clearing the Earth element, most effectively clearing the Blood level.)
【Preceding Discussion】Lu Dian said: There are several species of Cypress. For medicinal use, only those with flat leaves growing on one side are selected, hence called "Side Cypress" (Ce Bai Ye).
【Processing】Lei Gong said: When using Cypress leaf, it may be stir-fried or used raw.
[Bai Zi Ren]
Taste: Pungent, sweet. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Adverse to Chrysanthemum Flower (Juhua).
【Indications】Mainly treats palpitations and fright. Calms the Five Zang organs. Benefits Qi. Removes wind-damp bi-syndrome. Long-term use makes the body lustrous, ears clear, and eyes bright. (Shennong Ben Cao Jing) Treats dizziness and deficiency exhaustion.
【Meridian Tropism】Enters the Heart meridian, and also enters the Liver and Kidney meridians. It is a moistening substance. (Nourishes Heart Qi, moistens Kidney dryness, penetrates Heart and Kidney to benefit the Spleen, assists the Spleen, and nourishes the Liver.)
【Preceding Discussion】Su Song said: Most herbs that tonify the Spleen are drying. This is a moistening herb with a fresh fragrance, which greatly soothes the Spleen. Among herbs that dry the Spleen, it is best used as an adjunct.
