Take as desired.
Fang Feng Dang Gui San (Saposhnikoviae and Angelica Powder)

Crush the herbs. Each dose is 1 liang, decocted with 3 zhan of water until reduced to 2 zhan. Take warm.
Lou Shi stated: Xu Ming Tang (Preserve Life Decoction), Da Dou Zi Tang (Black Soybean Decoction), and Ju Qing Gu Bai San are formulas for Tai Yang (Sun-Yang) and Jue Yin (Jade-Yin) meridians. They are suitable for cases where pathogenic factors are excess and the pulse is floating, wiry, and forceful. However, for postpartum women with severe deficiency of blood and qi, it is inappropriate to lightly disperse the exterior. Using Fang Feng Dang Gui San is the best approach.
[Xue Ji] Chi (convulsion/spasm) refers to the tightening and cramping of sinews and vessels. Zong (clonic movement) refers to the stretching and relaxing of sinews and vessels. The Classics state: "The Liver governs the sinews and stores blood." Liver Qi belongs to Yang and Fire, while Liver Blood belongs to Yin and Water. The aforementioned condition occurs because excessive loss of Yin blood after childbirth leads to blazing Yang fire, causing the sinews to lose nourishment. Similarly, when sores and ulcers discharge excessive pus, or traumatic wounds bleed excessively, Yang dissipates along with Yin, often leading to this condition. The treatment method should employ Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) plus Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan) and Gou Teng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis) to generate Yin blood, thereby naturally retreating Yang fire and resolving all symptoms. If there is no response, use Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Chuan Xiong, Dang Gui, Mu Dan Pi, and Gou Teng to tonify Spleen Earth. Since blood is generated from Supreme Yin, and Supreme Yin refers to Spleen Earth, children who suffer from vomiting and diarrhea often develop this condition due to Spleen-Stomach deficiency. This is a deficiency pattern; there is no wind to expel and no phlegm to resolve. If it belongs to sinking and collapse of Yang Qi, use Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) plus Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex). For failure of Yang Qi, use Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction) plus Rou Gui and Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata); recovery is possible. In such patterns, if limbs feel aversion to cold and the pulse is faint and fine, this indicates true cold (with false heat). If the pulse is floating and large, accompanied by fever, irritability, and thirst, this is a false image; one should focus on consolidating the root. If there is weak convulsion, opisthotonos (reversed bending), and sweating like beads flowing, these are untreatable. One parturient woman, due to overwork, could not flex her arms. After taking Su He Xiang Wan (Styrax Pill), her limbs became flaccid and she sweated profusely like water. I reasoned that the previous medicine was pungent and aromatic, consuming True Qi, leaving the Cou Li (pores/skin texture) deficient and allowing fluids to leak recklessly. First, use Shi Quan Da Bu Tang plus Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus) to consolidate the Cou Li and astringe True Qi, stopping the sweat immediately. Then assist with Si Jun Zi Tang to regulate and tonify Yuan Qi, leading to gradual improvement. Finally, use Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Da Bu Tang (Great Tonifying Decoction) for conditioning until recovery. Another parturient woman first experienced distending pain in the chest, hypochondrium, and breasts, then after anger, developed trismus (lockjaw), expectoration of phlegm, inability to extend arms, and urinary incontinence, with a wiry pulse in the left three positions. I reasoned this was caused by Wind-Fire due to Liver Blood deficiency failing to nourish the sinews. First treat with Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), restoring arm flexion and extension. Then use Bu Gan San (Liver Tonifying Powder) and Liu Wei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) to resolve all symptoms. Another woman suffered from convulsions, urinary incontinence, spontaneous sweating, red face, sometimes blue face, with normal diet and a wiry-tight Liver pulse. I said: This is Dryness-Heat and Wind in the Liver channel, named convulsion. The Liver governs urination; its color is green, entering the Heart it becomes red. The method should be to nourish Yin blood and clear Liver fire. Thus, use Jia Wei Xiao Yao San. Within a few doses, all symptoms retreated and she was peaceful. Another woman suffered from this due to Postpartum Blood-Wind, and recovered after several doses of Xiao Xu Ming Tang (Minor Preserve Life Decoction).
Convulsions due to Wind invasion from deficiency after childbirth are similar to Exterior Syndromes of Shang Han (Cold Damage). If the pathogen has not transmitted inward, Fang Feng Tang (Saposhnikoviae Decoction) is appropriate.
Fang Feng Tang treats Wind-Deficiency Fever, stiffness and spasm of the neck and back, immobility of joints, delirium, erratic behavior without awareness. It is also very effective for Podagra (Gout) with weakness. This medicine is mild and does not damage healthy Qi.
Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, remove sprouts and soil), Du Huo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, remove rhizome), Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, remove joints), Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparata, wash seven times in boiling water, slice), Fang Feng (each 2 liang)
Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fang Ji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, crushed), Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, remove rhizome), Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae, remove bone)
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, remove rhizome, each 1 liang)

Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 3 qian), Huang Qin (1.2 qian), Ren Shen, Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, each 1.5 qian), Ban Xia (1.5 qian), Zhi Mu (Radix Anemarrhenae, 1 qian), Shi Gao (2 qian), Huang Qi (Radix Astragali Membranacei, 2.5 qian)
Grind into coarse powder. Divide into two doses. Decoct with 2 zhan of water, 3 slices of Sheng Jiang, and 2 dates until reduced to 8 fen. Take at any time.
Qin Jiao Tang (Gentian Decoction) Use this next after the previous symptoms have resolved to eliminate Wind pathogens.
Qin Jiao, Shao Yao, Chai Hu (each 1.7 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (1.3 qian), Huang Qin, Fang Feng (each 1.2 qian)
Ren Shen, Ban Xia (each 1 qian)
