[Da] If the fetus fails to grow during pregnancy, it is due to pre-existing chronic diseases or improper regulation, leading to the decline and damage of Zang-Fu organs, and deficiency of Qi and Blood, thereby preventing normal fetal growth.
The treatment should focus on curing the underlying disease and tonifying Qi and Blood, after which the fetus will naturally grow.
[Xue] In the aforementioned conditions, one must further examine the meridians and investigate the etiology to guide treatment. One pregnant woman at six months gestation presented with fatigue, poor appetite, sallow complexion, afternoon fever, and fetal growth retardation, caused by overexertion and sexual indulgence leading to sinking of fetal Qi. This indicated Spleen Qi deficiency; she was treated with Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) with increased doses of Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), and Fuling (Poria), administered for over thirty doses. Her Spleen and Stomach function gradually strengthened, fetal stability was restored, and the fetus grew normally. Another pregnant woman presented with alternating chills and fever, internal heat, afternoon fever, hypochondriac pain, and vomiting due to anger, with no fetal growth by the eighth month. This was caused by Liver and Spleen Qi stagnation due to anger; she was treated with Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) added with Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit), Zhike (Aurantium Fructus), Zisu (Perilla Leaf), and Jiegeng (Platycodon Root). Upon recovery from illness, the fetus also grew.

Carp (one chi long, cleaned of intestines and scales).
Soak in water until submerged, cook with salt and jujubes until done. Take the broth and drink it slowly. Sweat will appear on the abdomen corresponding to the fetus's location, resembling sweat on an ox's nose. Even if there are signs of threatened abortion or fetal instability, performing this method every ten days or so will promote fetal growth and ensure safety.
[Appendix] Zhishi Binglang Wan: Stabilizes and nourishes fetal Qi, regulates menstruation. For abdominal masses resembling pregnancy (zheng jia pi ku), it can be taken long-term to harmonize Blood and Qi.
