[Dietary Taboos]
After conception, one must strictly avoid certain foods. Not only does this prevent disturbing fetal Qi, but physical principles also dictate aversions. If one cannot abstain, it will not only lead to prolonged difficult labor but also cause deformity in the child and damage to the mother. How can one not be cautious?
Eating chicken meat and glutinous rice together causes the child to develop tapeworms (Cunbai Chong). Eating lamb liver causes the child to face many hardships. Eating carp and eggs causes the child to develop malnutrition (Gan Disease) and sores. Eating dog meat causes the child to be mute. Eating rabbit meat causes cleft lip in the child. Eating turtle causes short neck and fetal damage in the child. Eating duck meat together with mulberry fruit causes breech presentation and cold heart in the child. Eating crab causes transverse presentation in the child. Eating sparrow meat with bean paste causes black spots on the child's face. Eating bean paste with Agastache causes miscarriage. Drinking excessive water leads to infertility. Eating sparrow meat causes the child to lack shame and engage in promiscuity. Eating goat meat causes the child to be prone to illness. Eating ginger causes polydactyly and sores in the child. Eating toads and eels causes muteness in the child. Eating donkey, mule, or horse meat leads to prolonged difficult labor.
Such examples are all verified; thus, one understands the prenatal education methods of the sages.

[Lifestyle Taboos]
"Bianchan Xu Zhi" (Essentials for Easy Childbirth) states: Do not take medicines indiscriminately, do not drink excessively, do not perform acupuncture and moxibustion recklessly, do not defecate in unusual places, and do not lift heavy objects, climb high, or venture into danger. Great fright, if encountered, leads to difficult labor and fetal illness. Do not sleep too much; walk frequently. If the body is deficient and Kidney Qi is insufficient, the child may be born with craniolysis (Jielu), open fontanelles, and broken skull that does not close; warm tonification is suitable. If Spleen and Stomach are disharmonious, and Ying and Wei are deficient and weak, the child will surely be emaciated. Construction and earth-moving activities at home or in neighboring houses disturb fetal Qi, causing fetal deformity and death. Injury by knife causes physical damage; injury by mud blocks orifices; beating causes dark blue discoloration; binding causes contracture. These effects are as immediate as shadow and echo; one must strictly avoid them.
