Xingbi (Wandering Bi Syndrome), characterized by pain that wanders without a fixed location, is primarily treated with Fangfeng Tang (Saposhnikovia Decoction). Take Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), each 2 qian, stir-fried with wine, decocted in water. Once the decoction is ready, mix in powdered Weilingxian (Syringae Ramulus processed with wine) and Lingyangjiao Hui (Ash of Antelope Horn). With Cangzhu as the minister herb and Jiezi (Sinapis Semen) as the assistant herb, use one slice of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), crush 1 qian of medicinal powder, and take warm with the aforementioned decoction. Li Dongyuan stated: "Body heaviness and wandering pain result from the struggle between dampness and heat, where wind-heat is depressed and unable to extend, attaching itself to tangible structures." It is appropriate to use herbs such as Cangzhu and Huangbai. Dampness injures the Kidney; when the Kidney fails to nourish the Liver, the Liver generates internal wind, thereby forming Wind-Dampness. This flows into the tendons and bones of the four limbs, or invades the left shoulder, causing muscle pain that gradually spreads to the left fingers. Yiyiren San (Coix Seed Powder) is the primary treatment. For the ten fingers of both hands, pain shifts from one finger to another; after pain, swelling occurs, with deep bone pain. Knee pain shifts from the left knee to the right knee; attacks last five days at most or three days at least, being lighter during the day and heavier at night. During pain, there is a sensation of heat; walking alleviates pain but increases swelling. The commentary explains: "Blood aspect symptoms preceding Qi aspect symptoms means pain precedes swelling; this is injury to form affecting Qi." He Xue San Tong Tang (Harmonize Blood and Disperse Pain Decoction) is the primary treatment. Wandering pain differs from Lijie (Joint Ankylosis); Lijie involves merely joint pain, not necessarily wandering. *Bencao Gangmu* (Compendium of Materia Medica) confuses the two. Here are formulas specifically for treating wandering pain: Ruyi Tongsheng San, Hugut San, Guixin San, Xianlingpi San, Moyao San, Xiao Wuxi Wan, Moyao Wan, Hugut Wan, Shisheng Dan, Gusuibu Wan, Dingtong Wan, Bashen Dan, Yili Jin Dan, and Ruxiang Yingtong Wan. Take Dilong (Pheretima) 1 liang, cleaned of soil and stir-fried; Shuizhi (Hirudo) 0.5 liang, stir-fried ripe with glutinous rice; Shexiang (Moschus) 2.5 qian, separately ground fine. Grind all into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine, at any time. External application formula: Niujiaojiao (Bovis Colla) 1 liang, melted into paste with water; Yuntaizi (Brassicae Napus Semen), Anshixiang (Styrax), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), each 0.5 liang, ground into fine powder, mixed with the paste, applied on paper, and adhered to the painful area. Bimazi (Ricini Semen) 1 liang, peeled; Caowutou (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix) 0.5 liang; Ruxiang (Olibanum) 1 qian, separately ground fine. Refine Zhuduzhi (Porci Cauda Adiposum) to remove foam and form a paste, then mix evenly with the medicines. Apply and massage the site of wandering pain; rub with the palm until hot like fire, then apply and massage the affected area for optimal effect. Chen Wuyue stated: "When people suddenly suffer unbearable dull pain in the chest, back, hands, feet, neck, nape, waist, and knees, pulling and hooking the tendons and bones, causing restlessness in sitting and lying, with pain shifting constantly. Ignorant folk doctors call it 'Zouzhù' (wandering injection/pain) and use wind-dispelling drugs and acupuncture, which are of no benefit. They suspect wind-toxin accumulation intending to become carbuncle or ulcer, and indiscriminately administer medicines, which is also incorrect. This is phlegm-saliva lurking above and below the heart and diaphragm transforming into disease, causing severe headache preventing head lifting, mental confusion and drowsiness, loss of taste in food, thick sticky saliva, sawing sounds in the throat at night, drooling, heavy limbs, cold numbness in legs, blocked Qi flow. Misdiagnosing it as paralysis is also incorrect. For anyone with this condition, using Kongyan Dan (Control Phlegm Pill) for just a few doses will make the disease vanish. If phlegm carries dead blood, use Danxi Kongyan San."
