[Shi] Recipe for Nevus Removal Paste
Glutinous Rice (100 grains) Calcined Stone (size of a thumb) Croton Seed (3 grains, shell removed and pounded)
Pound the above into fine powder, place in a porcelain bottle, and seal together for three days. Each time, use a bamboo stick to pick up a small amount and dot it on the nevus; it will naturally erode and fall off.
[Jie] Recipe for Removing Freckles/Dark Spots
Weathered Calcined Stone (1 liang) Flower Alkali (0.5 liang)
Pound the above into fine powder. Apply three times; if the weather is cold, apply moistly.
[Yan] Mix Calcined Stone water to form a paste with the consistency of thick porridge. Select intact glutinous rice grains; bury half in the ash and leave half outside the ash overnight. The grains buried in the ash will turn transparent like crystal. For black nevi or tattoos on hands or face, gently prick the area with a needle head, apply a small amount of medicine on it, and after about half a day, the fluid from the nevus will naturally exude. Remove the medicine and do not use further; keep the area dry from water, and it will heal in two to three days. Another prescription: Take one leech and one chicken egg. Open the small end of the egg, insert the leech, cover with the eggshell piece, and seal it until the leech consumes all the egg white and dies. Then use it.
In autumn and winter, when wind, cold, and dryness are severe, people suffer from chapped and frostbitten hands and feet because of insufficient blood and deficient skin/flesh, making them susceptible to injury. External application of ointments to moisturize and dispel pathogens, combined with internal administration of Qi-nourishing and Blood-invigorating medicines, is appropriate.
Dong Yuan's Moisturizing Muscle Ointment Treats roughness and cracking of hands and feet, painful skin fissures, and sensitivity to wind.
Pearl Asphalt (4 liang) White Beeswax (8 qian) Frankincense (2 qian)
Place the above three ingredients in an iron vessel. Use mild heat to melt the asphalt first. Immediately add beeswax and frankincense. Then add 1-2 spoons of refined sesame oil. Wait for the asphalt to completely melt and simmer gently. Place a basin of clean water nearby. Test the consistency by dripping 1-2 drops of the mixture into the water using a stirring spoon. If it hardens, add more oil; if the softness is suitable, filter through new cotton cloth, fold and pull in water until it turns white. Add oil gradually to avoid excessive softness. Store in a porcelain container or wrap in oil paper. Use as needed. First, warm the fissures over fire to open them, then press them together. Soften the ointment over fire, apply to the fissures, and cover with a small piece of paper; they will naturally heal.
At the guesthouse near the North Wall of Fangcheng on the road, recorded by Elder Dong Yuan, there was a cart pusher whose skin was severely cracked and painful, unable to hold the cart handles or walk on the ground. He prepared this medicine on his cart, applied it, and felt immediate relief. He departed the next day. It has been used repeatedly with success since, so it is recorded here.
Chu Yushi treats chronic hand and foot chapping that does not heal in spring and summer.
Ginger Juice Red Fermented Rice Glutinous Salt Pig Fat (preferably made in the twelfth lunar month)
Pound the above until smooth, heat in a pan, and rub into the chapped areas. Although it may sting initially, the skin softens and cracks close shortly after. Reapplication brings comfort.
[Duan] For cold-induced chapping of hands and feet, take 3-4 he of Sichuan Pepper, boil and soak for half a shi (approx. 1 hour), soak again briefly, then apply sheep or pig marrow. This is very effective. (From *Mei Shi Fang*)
[Shi] To treat heel chapping, take a large handful of hair and one bowl of Tung Oil. Boil in a clay vessel until the oil boils and the hair dissolves. Remove from fire, spread to cool, and store in a clay vessel to prevent dust entry. Before each use, wash the cracked area with boiling water to soften it, then apply the ointment for relief. Another variation adds Calcium Carbonate (Hua Fen).
[Shan] For rotting foot cracks, steam lotus root, pound into a paste, and apply.
[Shi] Pound Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi) into powder, mix with ox marrow, and fill into the cracks for healing.
Also treats interdigital tinea/cracks: When slaughtering geese, take the yellow skin from goose feet, bake dry, burn until charred but retaining properties, and pound into powder. Sprinkle on wet lesions. Another variation suggests applying raw Tung Oil, which is excellent.
Beeswax Ointment Treats winter splitting of hands and feet.
Take 0.5 liang of refined oil, boil slowly in a cup, add a piece of beeswax. Melt together. Add a small amount of refined powder (Guang Fen) and Galla Chinensis powder. Simmer until thick and purple-brown. Wash with hot water first, dry over fire, then apply ointment and cover with paper. Pain stops immediately. It remains adherent even when wet. If too much powder is added during preparation, it becomes hard and clumpy; simply reheat and stir before application. Another variation omits Galla Chinensis.
