[Di Song (Lamium album / Ground Pine)]
Taste: Salty. Indications: Treats traumatic injuries with bleeding, and resolves toxicity from venomous insects and snakebites. Apply the juice topically. Grows near dwellings and in shady places by roadsides; found everywhere. Height: 2-3 cun. Leaves resemble those of Brassica chinensis (Bok Choy) but are smaller. (Modern Addition)
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note that *Tianmingjing* (Prunella vulgaris) is listed as a Superior Grade herb in the Grass category of the *Shennong Bencao Jing*. The Tang commentary states: "People in the South call it Di Song." Furthermore, examining its indicated functions, they correspond exactly to this entry. Additionally, according to Chen Cangqi's analysis in *Bencao Shiyi*, reconciling the views of Tao Hongjing and Su Gong, both also identify *Tianmingjing* as *Di Song*. Therefore, this entry should not appear redundantly. Although Chen Cangqi separately established an entry for *Di Song* in *Bencao Shiyi*, this was merely Chen Cangqi establishing his own book, aiming for numerous entries.
There are also discrepancies between *Jiefen* and *Shiyi*. Later scholars should not have followed these errors to create new additions. Regarding the current supplementary annotations and established principles, no deletions were made; thus, it is retained here with notes.
Chen Cangqi records: The seedlings of *Di Song* resemble those of *Tian Dong* (Asparagus cochinchinensis), produced in the Jiangnan region. *Waitai Miyao*: Treats malignant sores. Crush *Di Song* to extract juice and drink it, three to four times daily, until recovery. From *Taiping Shenghui Fang*.
[Yan Mai (Oats / Brome Grass)]
Taste: Sweet. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Indications: Treats difficult labor in women. Decoct and drink the juice. Also known as [Character Missing], also known as Yan Mai. Grows in old ruins, wild fields, and under forests. Leaves resemble wheat.
Modern Annotation: Seedlings resemble those of common wheat but are weaker; grains resemble those of barley but are finer. Grows in the Lingnan region; also found elsewhere. (Previously added in Tang edition.)
*Waitai Miyao*: A prescription for toothache and dental caries lasting many years, applicable from youth to old age. Que Mai (Brome grass) is also called Mu Lao Cao, commonly known as Niu Xing Cao. Single herb formula: Take 30 leaves of Ku Hu (Bitter Bottle Gourd), wash them cleanly. Cut the grass into segments two cun long, one cun wide, and five fen thick. Wrap each segment in gourd leaves to make five packets. Soak in vinegar aged three years. By noon, heat two packets over fire and apply them to the outside of the teeth in the mouth. Replace when cool. Retrieve a copper vessel filled with water, dissolve the wraps in the water, and rinse. Worms approximately three fen long will emerge; older ones are yellow, younger ones white. There may be thirty or twenty, or ten or twenty. This prescription is excellent. *Zimu Milu*: For pregnancy with fetal death in the uterus, where the placenta fails to descend and rises to oppress the heart. Take one handful of Que Mai, add five sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng of liquid, and drink.
*Yanyi* states: Que Mai is now called Yan Mai. Its seedlings are identical to wheat, but the ears are slender and sparse. As Liu Mengde of the Tang Dynasty wrote: "Tu Kui and Yan Mai, swaying in the spring wind."
